Skin Trade (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #17) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Once you tell someone certain things, like, say, you got mailed a human head in a box, they tend to think you're crazy. Anita Blake's reputation has taken some hits. Not on the work front, where she has the highest kill count of all the legal vampire executioners in the country, but on the personal front. No one seems to trust a woman who sleeps with the monsters. Still, when a vampire serial killer sends her a head from Las Vegas, Anita has to warn Sin City's local authorities what they're dealing with. Only it's worse than she thought. Several officers and one executioner have been slain - paranormal style... Anita heads to Las Vegas, where she's joined by three other federal marshals, including the ruthless Edward hiding behind his mild-mannered persona. It's a good thing Edward always has her back, because, when she gets close to the bodies, Anita senses "tiger" too strongly to ignore it. The we...

Danse Macabre (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #14) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary:      These days, Anita Blake is less interested in vampire politics than in an ancient, ordinary dread she shares with women down the ages: she may be pregnant. And, if she is, whether the father is a vampire, a werewolf, or someone else entirely, he knows perfectly well that being a Federal Marshal known for raising the dead and being a vampire executioner, is no way to bring up a baby. I'm on the fence with this book. I'm not sure if I like it or if I hate it. There was some type of plot. Was it well executed? Definitely, not. Was there a lot of sex scenes? Yeah, but again it's like Hamilton is using sex scenes to fill the book. By that I mean, it seems like she's trying to meet a page quota so she's just putting in a ton of sex scenes to meet it. It seems like whenever we're progressing in the story she drops a sex scene. I'm not sure if it's because she's not sure what to do next to get the plot g...

Micah (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #13) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: There are lots of reasons to raise the dead-some private, some public. In this case, the feds have a witness who died before he could speak on the record. They want him raised so his testimony can be taken. So here I am, on a plane to Philadelphia, flying off to do my job. But I'm not alone. Micah is with me. Micah, head of the St. Louis wereleopard pard. King to my Queen. The only one of my lovers who can stir my blood with just a glance from his chartreuse cat's eyes. I was happy to have him at my side. Until he mentioned that this will be our first time alone together. No Master Vampire. No Alpha Werewolf. Just me and Micah. And all my fears and doubts... Not sure if someone told Hamilton to chill with all the crazy extreme sex scenes but we were only subjected to one sex scene in this book, if we can really call it a book. Hamilton's books normally range from 400-700 pages per book but this one was less than 250 pages. T...

Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid #5) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers)  Summary: Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Immortality, seduction, shape-shifting into any human form she desires, walking in heels that would cripple mere mortals -- all child's play to a succubus like her. Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend's wedding is a different story. Georgina isn't sure which is worse -- that Seth is marrying another woman, or that Georgina has to run all over Seattle trying on bridesmaid dresses. Still, there are distractions. Georgina's roommate, Roman, is cluttering her apartment with sexual tension. Then there's Simone, the new succubus in town, who's intent on corrupting Seth. But the real danger lies in the mysterious force that's visiting her thoughts, trying to draw her into a dark, otherworldly realm. Sooner or later, Georgina knows she'll be too weak to resist. And when that happens, she'll discover who she can trust, who she can't -- and that Hell is far from the worst p...

Succubus Heat (Georgina Kincaid #4) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: Georgina Kincaid has been a bad, bad succubus. . . . . .which should be a good thing. But lately, thanks to her foul mood over breaking up with bestselling writer Seth Mortensen, she's been so wicked that Seattle's über-demon Jerome, decides to "outsource " Georgina to a rival—and have her spy for him in the process. Being exiled to the frozen north—okay, Vancouver—and leaving Seth in the cozy clutches of his new girlfriend is unpleasant enough. Then Jerome is kidnapped, and all immortals under his control mysteriously lose their powers. One bright spot: with her life-sucking ability gone, there's nothing to keep Georgina from getting down and dirty with Seth—nothing apart from his girlfriend that is. Now, as the supernatural population starts turning on itself, a newly mortal Georgina must rescue her boss and figure out who's been playing them—or all hell will break loose. . . This has been the best book yet in th...

Succubus Dreams (Georgina Kincaid #3) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

Image
***This review contains spoilers*** Summary: First, Georgina Kincaid, a shape-shifting succubus who gets her energy from seducing men, can't have sex with her gorgeous bestselling author boyfriend Seth Mortensen--in case she inadvertently kills him. Second, Georgina's under demonic orders to mentor the new (and surprisingly inept) succubus on the block. Third, someone's manipulating her dreams, draining her energy and supplying eerie visions of her future. Georgina seeks answers from Dante, a dream interpreter with ties to the underworld, but his flirtatious charm only leaves her more confused--especially as the situation with Seth reaches a crisis point. Georgina needs to rein in her out-of-control love life and go toe-to-toe with an enemy capable of wreaking serious havoc among mankind. Otherwise, Georgina, and the entire mortal world, may never sleep easy again... This has got to be the most action packed, drama filled book of this series. From a primordial goddess goin...

City Of Demons (Georgina Kincaid #2.5) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: Georgina is finally, irrevocably in love, and she doesn’t care who knows it. There’s just one problem. If she and her boyfriend, Seth Mortensen, succumb to their all-consuming desire, the consequences will be dire: Seth will be destroyed. Of course, no one cares about their struggle to keep their hands to themselves, especially not Georgina’s archdemon boss, who is sending her to L.A. to sit on a demon-run tribunal. An immortal has been murdered—and the high court is determined to find the killer and set an example… Bribery, corruption, murder—the three demons on trial will stop at nothing to avoid a guilty verdict. But all the dark magic zipping through the atmosphere must be going to Georgina’s head, because suddenly she suspects that Seth is up to no good. Now she can’t help but wonder how far she’d be willing to go to make sure she doesn’t lose the love of her immortal life…  For a short story, it is very well written and extre...

Succubus On Top (Georgina Kincaid #2) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

Image
*This review will include spoilers.* Summary: Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses Seth Mortensen, the shy, sexy writer she's been dating, she'll drain his life force. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks of a succubus are terrific, but it's completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can't get down with the one mortal who accepts her for who she is. . . It's not just her personal life that's in chaos. Doug, Georgina's co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behavior, and Georgina suspects something far more demonic than double espressos. She could use an assist from Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, but he's giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one-and fast, because soon, Doug's life won't be the only one on the line. . . I truly enjoy bo...

Divine By Choice (Partholon #2) By: P.C. Cast (Book Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) Summary:  Shannon Parker has finally come to terms with life in the mythical world of Partholon. She loves her centaur husband, her connection to the goddess Epona and the pampering that comes with both! She's almost forgotten her old life on Earth, especially, when she discovers she's pregnant...Then a sudden burst of power sends her back to Oklahoma. Without magic, Shannon can't return to Partholon and so she needs to find help. Trouble is, it might take the form of a man as tempting as her husband. And along the way she'll discover that being divine by mistake is a lot easier than being divine by choice.  The first book was a great joy for me to read and as for the sequel well let's just say that it was a little bit predictable. Shannon being pregnant came to no surprise to me because in most stories once the main evil is vanquished and the heroine finds her true love next comes a pregnancy. Of course, once Sh...

Divine By Mistake (Partholon #1) By: P.C. Cast (Book Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers in this review))) Summary: The only excitement Shannon Parker expects while on summer vacation is a little shopping. But when an antique vase c alls to her, she finds herself transported to Partholon, where she's treated like a goddess. A very temperamental goddess... Somehow Shannon has stepped into another's role as the Goddess incarnate of Epona. And while there's an upside, what woman doesn't like lots of pampering? It also comes with a ritual marriage to a centaur and threats against her new people. oh, and everyone disliking her because they think she's her double. Somehow Shannon needs to figure out how to get back to Oklahoma without being killed, married to a horse or losing her mind... This is one of the best stories I have read in a long while. It's different, innovating and beyond enthralling. Cast's writing style is relatable and easily readable. And she knows when to be funny! There were many moment where...

Divine Beginnings (Partholon #0.5) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
((( This review will contain spoilers))) Summary: Go back in time, fifty years before the events of New York Times bestselling author P.C. Cast's Partholon books... Something isn't right at Guardian Castle, and Aine can't figure out what. As Healer, she's supposed to be making things better, but there's a darkness that can't be brightened. And then Aine finds an injured Fomorian--winged, dark, blood-thirsty and inherently evil. Or is he? Because there's something about Tegan that Aine can't resist...and once they've shared blood, Aine realizes that everything she's always believed is going to be cast aside....  As far as short stories go I really enjoyed this one. I read the first three books in this series almost ten years ago and I absolutely loved them. I don't remember much of the plot other than there was a bunch of centaurs and goddesses. So, this prequel is a nice introduction into the world of Partholon.  We are ...

A Shiver Of Light (Merry Gentry #9) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers in this review))) Summary: Merry Gentry, ex-private detective and full time princess, is now the mother of triplets, a rarity in the high ranks of faerie. And not everyone is happy about it, including Taranis, King of Light and Illusion. He's using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. To save herself and her children, Merry will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie while trying to keep war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.  First question! Who was the fucking idiot that wrote this summary? Because the summary comes no where close to even describing the book itself. The summary is what I wish the book was; enticing, imagin...

Divine Misdemeanors (Merry Gentry #8) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers))) Summary: You may know me best as Meredith Nic Essus, princess of faerie. Or perhaps as Merry Gentry, Los Angeles private eye. To protect my unborn children, I have turned my back on the crown, choosing exile in the human world with my beloved Frost and Darkness. Yet I cannot abandon my people. Someone is killing the fey, which has left the LAPD baffled and my guardsmen and me deeply disturbed. I thought I'd left the blood and politics behind in my own turbulent realm. But now I realize that evil knows no borders, and that nobody lives forever even if they're magical.  The first thing out of my mouth when I finished this book was "this was disappointing". And yes, it was extremely disappointing. Like I have mentioned before in a previous review, Swallowing Darkness for me felt like the final novel only because the main plot was resolved and came to an end. Even the final chapter of that novel felt like the closing of the serie...

Swallowing Darkness (Merry Gentry #7) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) Summary: I am Meredith, princess of faerie, and at long last, I am with child;twins, fathered by my royal guard. Now I must stay alive to see my children born, as conspirators from every court plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh who will stand by me. Those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything, even if it means waging a battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.  In this novel, so much has happened in very little time with a lot of story development taking place and I feel would have been the perfect way to end the series. The fact that there are 2 more books after this already published and more being worked on to me means one of two things...

A Lick Of Frost (Merry Gentry #6) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers))) Summary: I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne of faerie. To be crowned queen, I must become pregnant and continue the royal bloodline. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel as monarch...and kill me. My royal guards  surround me, and my best loved- my Darkness and my Killing Frost are always beside me, sworn to make love to me and protect me. Even now, we are forced into exile in the mortal world, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But King Taranis, powerful and dangerous ruler of faerie's Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime. I know that Taranis's true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child, and now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying.  Despite, a good 50 percent of the book being mirror calls from one monarch to another, there was a whole lot of story ...
