Anger Management (The Morganville Vampires #10.5) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)
Summary:
Shane might need some counselling for his anger issues. It’s common knowledge he has them, but they made an epic appearance in Bite Club, and surely if he didn’t seek some help, someone would seek it for him … leading to this Amelie-mandated counselling session with Dr Theo Goldman, who is the closest thing the Morganville vampires have to a mental health professional.
Another awesome short story! I always was curious how Shane viewed Claire. Claire is described as being skinny, short haired and quite young looking. She doesn't exude sex appeal like Monica or Glory, however, she is a smart girl who has grown into her own and is no longer a little mouse just trying to avoid any sort of conflict or confrontation.
I loved how Shane went it detail for his love for her. One of the many questions I have when it comes to those two is if they will stay together. When we were first introduced to Claire, she went to Morganville for University and she wanted to head to MIT right afterwards. Last book, MIT called and she had to decline because of obvious vampire reasons but I think a part of her stayed due to Shane. I absolutely hate that. No young girl or woman should ever change their plans due to a man. Men come and go but opportunities don't come around that often and when you have the chance you need to seize it. I wish Caine would have written his view on MIT and how he felt about her choosing him.
Poor baby Shane has had a terrible life due to Morganville so no wonder he has raging anger issues. He's a loving guy with a chip on his shoulder when it comes to the vampires and rightfully so. He lost his sister due to a psychopath who was protected by vampires, his mother was murdered but made to look like a suicide by vampires and his dad first turned vamp then brain taken to help keep Morganville in order by yet again...vampires. Needless to say, he is quick for a confrontation. Especially, if you are of the undead variety.
Dr. Theo Goldman is one of the few vampires who don't inherently hate humans and view them as lesser than. Not the best choice to be counseling Shane and yet not the worst one either. Shane learning to control his anger and not get involved in physical altercations was surprisingly entertaining and also humbling. If I were in his shoes I would have bitch slapped everyone who started with me. But he did the right thing and walked away. If anything Shane learning to control his temper will make him appear scarier to others. Kudos to him for finally figuring that out.
Another great short story. I'll give it for 4 stars. I did want a bit more when it came to Claire and Shane but otherwise a great read nonetheless.
