Burnt Offerings (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #7) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: "You can't trust anyone who sleeps with the monsters." That's what I've always said. That's what I've always believed. But now I'm the one sharing a bed with the Master Vampire of the City. Me, Anita Blake. The woman the vampires call the Executioner. From part of the solution, I've become part of the problem. So it hits close to home when an arsonist begins to target vampire-owned businesses all over town -- an arsonist who seems to want to destroy more than just property. It's the monsters who are in danger now. And it's up the the Executioner to save them from the inferno... This has been a nice change of pace. From the start, Anita has come up against very old and very powerful vampires with different kinds of abilities. Throughout this book, we have an insight on just how much the triumvirate with Richard and Jean-Claude has affected Anita. The council comes strolling into town who are

DevaCurl | Super Stretch (Review)

Image
Product Summary: This coconut infused cream stretches any style, it elongates curls without compromising definition, while coconut oil delivers shine and moisture. The soft, velvety texture gives the moisture of a cream with the hold of a gel, without the crunch. Costs: $30.  How to use:  You can either apply into clean wet hair in a downward motion. Don't scrunch! Or apply on wet hair in sections, style and unravel once dry.  *** Cruelty free*** I had high hopes for this product. I have very thick wavy hair that without any products or styling with heat it looks like a huge frizzy mess. I have used hair mousse in the past and had great success with them so I figured I'd get the same results. The first time I tried this product out my hair was a hot mess. I put too much product and my hair had this crunchy/wet texture that I couldn't stand. I normally wash my hair once a week but using this product I had to wash my hair within two days, it was that awful.  Even just barely

The Killing Dance (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #6) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
*This review will contain spoilers* Summary: Dating both a vampire and a werewolf isn't easy. But just to complicate Anita's already messy life, someone has put a price on her head. Love cannot save her this time, so she turns to Edward, hitman extraordinaire, for help. But finding the person behind the threat won't be easy, because as both a vampire hunter and zombie reanimator, Anita has made a lot of enemies-both human and otherwise. This has got to be one of the most intense books out of the whole series thus far. If you thought the previous books were dark, twisted and gory those pale in comparison to this one. It's like Hamilton turned it up a notch both in violence and romantic relationships. And we've got quite a few bad guys gunning after Anita.  We are first introduced to Sabin; visiting master vampire and Dominic; human servant and necromancer who are seeking out Anita for her help. Sabin changed his diet for the love of his life and unfortunately he sta

Pacifica Beauty | Coconut Blush Duo in Beaming & Tenderheart (Review)

Image
Product Summary: Whether you want to warm your face, add a subtle flush of colour, or both, these shimmery shades in this blush/bronzer duo will get the job done. The blendable, buildable shades flatter all skin tones. It's infused with coconut, which makes application ultra-smooth (and 100% non-streaky) Costs around $10-15. I ended up receiving this product in a Ipsy glam bag which is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get 5 items from sample to full size for around 20$ Canadian. Click here to check them out. ***Cruelty free ❤*** As I'm sure you guys have noticed, I'm a very pale girl and without the help of blush and bronzer I would look like a ghost. That's how pale I am. I look like a sick person if I don't add any colour to my face. While it does say it's a duo blush but for me and my complexion it ends up working out as a bronzer and blush duo. I use beaming as a bronzer to warm up my face. I use it along my cheekbones and temple area. I then

Bloody Bones (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #5) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) Summary: Anita Blake, vampire hunter and animator, takes a bite out of crime-of the supernatural kind. But even someone who deals with death on a daily basis can be unnerved by its power... When Branson, Missouri, is hit with a death wave-four unsolved murders-it doesn't take an expert to realize that all is not well. But luckily for the locals, Anita is an expert-in just the kinds of preternatural goings-on that have everyone spooked. And she's got an "in" with just the kind of creature who can make sense of the slayings: a sexy master vampire known as Jean Claude. We're back on track baby!!! The previous book had me nervous and worried thinking that this series was going to tank with the random romance trying to make a love triangle appear out of thin air. But luckily this book has redeemed the mistakes of The Lunatic Cafe . Since the first book I had no issues with the series. It was engaging, interesting and completely

L'Oréal Paris | Ultra-Concentrated Urgent Repair Care (Review)

Image
Product Summary: L'Oréal's ultra concentrated urgent repair care is enriched with LAK1000 containing reconstructing gel that deeply penetrates the hair fiber. Directions: After using shampoo and conditioner, apply on wet hair concentrating on mid-length and ends. Use once a week. Costs around $5.   ***Not cruelty free*** For some reason I am unable to find what LAK1000 means on their website or anywhere else. And I can't seem to find much information on this product either. Maybe this product never flew off the shelves but it would explain why I was able to snag a few of these for just a dollar.   It comes to no surprise that I constantly colour and curl my hair, with that I need to use hair products that can deeply nourish and repair my damaged hair. I have long thick hair so this one tube only lasted after one use. Luckily I was able to snag a few of these to really test them out.  After just a couple of uses I can visibly see a difference in my hair. The ends are not as

The Lunatic Cafe (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #4) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers)  Summary: Anita has fallen for the leader of a local pack of werewolves. She's survived a lot, but this love thing may kill her yet. You guys know how much I have been loving this series so far and I have been hoping we keep going on this trajectory but alas we have hit a major speedbump. Not in the mystery/ crime fighting part of it but the whole romance aspect just shifted in this book to another level that I absolutely hate and do not understand. This book was action packed and yet again we're being exposed to a different aspect of Anita's world. All of that was top notch as per usual but Hamilton really fucked up with the development of Anita's and Richard's relationship and threw in the mix, Jean-Claude. There is so much to unpack.  I had such high hopes for this series and then Hamilton threw in out of nowhere romance and now I'm barely holding on. When we finished the previous book Anita was newly dating Richard, a wer

Circus Of The Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #3) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: In Circus of the Damned a rogue master vampire hits town, and Anita gets caught in the middle of an undead turf war. Jean-Claude, the Master Vamp of the city, wants her for his own-but his enemies have other plans. And to make matters worse, Anita takes a hit to the heart when she meets a stunningly handsome junior high science teacher named Richard Zeeman. They're two humans caught in the crossfire-or so Anita thinks. This has been the best book so far in this series! We've got new bad guys, new supernatural creatures and a whole lot of violence. Just up my alley. I love that this world keeps expanding and we are still being introduced to new supernatural creatures. We got to meet werewolves, a giant cobra and a Lamia. Still not clear on where this giant cobra came from other than it has something to do with magic. I am not a fan of snakes and reading about them definitely put me on edge. Yet again Hamilton has this knack for being

Sephora | Exfoliating Cleansing Cream Green Tea (Review)

Image
Product Summary: A cleansing cream with tiny scrubbing beads that help clean out pores, sweep away dead skin cells and help refine skins texture. Skin is soft and luminous, free of impurities and excess oil. Costs: $5. *Not Cruelty Free* During summer months, our skin is attacked by humidity and constant sweat. For my skin specifically I tend to have more clogged pores, breakouts and excess oil. I don't do well in the heat and neither does my skin. That is why a exfoliating cleanser is a must. I was a little worried at first because a lot of scrubs contain microplastics that are extremely damaging to the skin. However, after checking the ingredient deck I had no more worries. The beads actually end up dissolving when you expose them to water. Microbeads make of plastic don't do that.  I was super impressed by this product. Not just by the price but how effective it is for the skin. After just one use, you can instantly notice a difference. It helped clean away my excess oil, it

The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #2) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: Harold Gaynor offers Anita Blake a million dollars to raise a 300-year-old zombie. Knowing it means a human sacrifice will be necessary, Anita turns him down. But when dead bodies start turning up, she realizes that someone else has raised Harold's zombie--and that the zombie is a killer. Anita pits her power against the zombie and the voodoo priestess who controls it. The second book in the series and we are yet again given another phenomenal mystery novel. The first one we were definitely not eased into Anita's world, we were thrown in but it was a awesome wild ride. This time around there's even more gore, we get to experience Anita's powers as a necromancer and just how much of a badass she really is.  In this book there was barely any mention of vampires and we only got a few scenes with Jean-Claude. I found that we got to learn more about Necromancers and just how big and complex their world really is. There are necrom

It Cosmetics | Bye Bye Under Eye Full Coverage Anti-Aging Waterproof Concealer (Review)

Image
Product Summary: Developed with plastic surgeons, this award-winning anti-aging concealer is highly pigmented, never creases or cracks, and truly covers everything! It effectively conceals the look of skin imperfections including dark circles, bags, redness, hyperpigmentation, broken capillaries, age spots and discoloration. Costs $36. I have two shades, I have light and light fair.  I ended up receiving this item in a Ipsy glam bag which is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get 5 items from sample to full size for around 20$ Canadian. Click  here to check them out. ***Cruelty free ❤*** With its claim of covering everything and never creasing definitely intrigued me. Covering my under eyes has been a constant battle over the past several years. I tried several different ways of applying the concealer; with my fingers, concealer brush and a beauty sponge. With a concealer brush and fingers a little goes a long way. Especially, with how thick it is, you can get easily over

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #1) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: re-animating the dead and killing the undead who take things too far. But when the city’s most powerful vampire asks her to solve a series of vicious slayings, Anita must confront her greatest fear—her undeniable attraction to master vampire Jean-Claude, one of the creatures she is sworn to destroy... This book is such a fantastic intro to Anita Blake's world. It is so well written and really captivated my attention. I just couldn't put it down. I kept making time in my day to have a chance to read it because it's so damn good. It's a lot different in comparison to other vampire novels. Everyone else loves to romanticize vampires and make them seem a lot nicer than you would think vampires are. A lot of authors like to humanize vampires and the protagonist seems to always need their help. But not Laurell K. Hamilton! From the get go it'

Strange Candy (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #0.5) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: From a woman who marries into a family of volatile wizards to a couple fleeing a gang of love-hungry cupids, from a girl who seeks sanctuary in the form of a graceful goose to the disgruntled superhero Captain Housework, readers will revel in the many twists and turns of fortune in these fantastical fairy tales and lush parables. Even hardened vampire hunter and zombie animator Anita Blake gets blindsided by the disturbing motives of her clients in the new "Those Who Seek Forgiveness" and in "The Girl Who Was Infatuated with Death." I first read a book from Hamilton during my teenage years and got hooked  pretty quickly. It didn't take long before I bought all the books from her Meredith Gentry and Anita Blake series. Hamilton is extremely talented in how she is able to set a scene and draw her audience into the story. My preference is when she does non-erotic stories just because when she focuses too much on the sex

Image

Water-light and sheer, the opal shade adjusts in any light so your refined glow is never lost. Costs around $40. Sweep across face or apply to targeted areas including cheekbones, brow bones and bridge of the nose. Costs $50.  ***Cruelty-free ❤*** I am a huge lover of highlighters whether liquid or powder highlighter. I simply love them all! So of course I would fall in love with these highlighters. However, I'm not a big fan of the price. I was able to snag deluxe samples for around $25. But $40-50 for a single highlighter is so obscene. Not sure if that plays a part to

I Heart You, You Haunt Me By: Lisa Schroeder (Book Review)

Image
(This review contains spoilers) Summary: Ava can't see or touch him, unless she's dreaming.  She can't hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind.  Most would think she's crazy, but she knows he's here.  Jackson. The boy Ava thought she'd spend the rest of her life with.  He's back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.  This is definitely an interesting read, especially, since the book is written in verse. Aside from reading poetry or some of the classics, I've never come across a book in the young adult section written in verse. This book has about 200 pages but if compressed would probably be about 15-20 pages. It really is a short read but it's definitely enjoyable!  This is about a 15 year old girl named Ava who lost her boyfriend Jackson. This is a story about loss, grieving and learning to be able to move on. At 15 I did not give 2 shits about guys. I was too wrapped up in my own world to really notice the opp

Eyeko London | Skinny Liquid Eyeliner (Review)

Image
Product Summary: This liquid eyeliner is expertly designed to make the application process a breeze with precision point perfection that's fool proof. This easy to apply vegan liquid felt tipped eyeliner pen allows you to create thick feline flicks and thin defined lines. This formula is meant to last up to 9 hours and is smudge-proof. Costs $22.  I ended up receiving this item in a Ipsy glam bag which is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get 5 items from sample to full size for around 20$ Canadian. Click  here to check them out. ***Cruelty Free*** It seems I am doomed to repeat the same cycle when trying out new eyeliners. I have had this streak lately where eyeliners I've tried have been extremely difficult to apply, is not long lasting and I end looking like a drowned raccoon. Unfortunately, this eyeliner does not differ from the rest.  From the very start I have not been able to apply eyeliner on both eyes before the tip of the liner dries out. Whether I keep

Succubus Shadows (Georgina Kincaid #5) By: Richelle Mead (Book Review)

(This review will contain spoilers)  Summary: Georgina Kincaid has formidable powers. Helping to plan her ex-boyfriend's wedding is a different story. Peppermint (Movie Review)

Image
(This review contains spoilers) Summary: A grieving mother transforms herself into a vigilante following the murders of her husband and daughter, eluding the authorities to deliver her own personal brand of justice. I am surprised that there wasn't more hype around this movie. Granted there were inconsistencies and quite a bit left to be desired but otherwise not a bad movie at all! Riley North witnessing the murder of her family during a drive by while suffering a head injury would be traumatic for anybody and anyone in that position would need some psychiatric help. But the inconsistencies in the first 10 minutes of the movie was beyond annoying.  With Riley obtaining a gunshot wound to the head, she needed to be rushed into surgery and of course in these types of situations the surgeons will cut/shave the injury area but they would never just give a patient a whole God-damn haircut. I'm not sure if it was decided to give her a haircut to demonstrate the drastic change in he
