The Harlequin (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #15) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Anita Blake is about to face the challenge of her life. Into her world-a world already overflowing with power-have come creatures so feared that powerful, centuries-old vampires refuse to mention their names. It is forbidden to speak of The Harlequin unless you've been contacted. And to be contacted by The Harlequin is to be under sentence of death. This book has definitely been better than the last few books that I've read from this series but yet still doesn't top the first six books. I saw a glimpse of the old Hamilton writing style that we have been familiar with through the first six books. There was actually a plot and an actual villain!!! Now you wouldn't think this would be asking for much BUT lately with the last few books Hamilton seems to have lost her creativity with a bunch of senseless sex scenes.  Anita used to be this badass, no nonsense vampire hunter and now she has been reduced to this sexual conduit f

Annabelle: Creation (Movie Review)

***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Former toymaker Sam Mullins and his wife, Esther, are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple's 7 year old daughter Annabelle died in a tragic car accident. Terror soon strikes when one child sneaks into a forbidden room and finds a seemingly innocent doll that appears to have a life of its own.  At the start of the movie I was skeptical because we already knew how Annabelle was created from the first movie so what more could they possibly add to her story? The first half of the movie was dull and insufferable. There was no real development to the story, I do like movies that have a slow buildup but each scene adds to the story. This movie didn't have that. There was nothing exciting about the opening scene that hooked me in and having a bunch of girls move into a house didn't add anything either.  I found the Mullins story and experiences after their daughter

House Of The Dragon | Season 1 Episode 1: The heirs of the dragon (Episode Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** I wasn't religiously watching Game of Thrones but simply watching it here and there. The last season was definitely a letdown, especially, with how rushed it felt and the ending was less than desirable so I wasn't going to watch House of the Dragon. But with how much its grown in popularity and it being the #1 show right now I feel like I'm suckered in. And have to watch it and this time around I'll review each episode.  Opening Scene: Already starting off on who will be the ruler of the seven kingdoms and heir to the Iron Throne. The line of succession changes to Viserys because Rhaenys even though the eldest of Jaehaerys' children is but a woman and women are not meant to rule no matter which Universe; fictional or otherwise. Women are always seen as the weaker sex no matter how much we prove ourselves. What an injustice that is to women and seems to be a common theme throughout the episode.  Several times Rhaenys was addre

The Conjuring 2 (Movie Review)

***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.  Opening scene: We are introduced and given some background to another one of the Warren's most famous cases; The Amityville haunting. This has been made into so many movies that I hope when it gets adapted in to the Conjuring universe that it's actually well made and not like some that made it look like a low budget movie.  Yet again they hit this out of the mark. Whole new story but executed really well like the first one. Typically, sequels tend to suck because they try to redo the first movie again which tends to be the first mistake. With sequels, it's best to flip the script and do something different from the first one which I'm happy to say is what they did for the second conjuring movie.  We're in a whole different country, a new family being plagued by demonic forces but

Annabelle (Movie Review)

***There will be spoilers in this review*** Summary:  Members of a satanic cult invade the home of a man and his pregnant wife and turn a vintage doll into a conduit for ultimate evil.  Opening scene: We get the same flashback from the conjuring about the 2 nurses experiencing paranormal activity when one of their moms gift them the Annabelle doll.  I am thoroughly impressed with this movie. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. It has all the right elements from the sound, music, script, characters etc. Everything was really well thought out and I truly appreciate that in a movie.  I love watching horror movies, especially, if there is a supernatural element to it. However, I've come across a lot of them that were complete garbage. Either the story is rushed or there's no plot or the acting is extremely terrible. But this movie really ticked all the boxes for me. I had this constant sense of dread and foreboding. I held my breath and at times a little scream escaped

Araceli Beauty | Ojos Perfectos Liquid Eyeliner (Review)

Image
Product Summary: Matte black and highly pigmented, this precise tip is perfect to create thin lines or a sharp winged liner. The liquid eyeliner was designed to stay put through any emotional novelas, heart-felt Rancheras or getting smacked with the chancla. Costs: $20. The liner I got was in the shade Night.  I ended up receiving this item in a Ipsy glam bag which is a monthly beauty subscription service where you get 5 items from sample to full size for around 20$ Canadian. Click  here to check them out.   ***Cruelty free*** I have had a string of bad luck regarding black eyeliners for the past few years. While this one isn't as bad as some I've tried in the past it's still not the best. The application process wasn't so terrible. The tip does dry up quickly when I try to apply the liner on both eyes. And it becomes extremely difficult to have a sharp wing when the tip is too dry.  I thought this eyeliner would be a long-lasting one but it can't even withstand a d

Marc Jacobs | Le Marc Lip Crème (Review)

Image
Product summary: A rich, velvety, ultra-hydrating lipstick that delivers a dramatic punch of vivid pigment and endless hours of luxurious wear. Costs: $30. Lipstick I have is in the shade Kiss Kiss Bang Bang 216.  ***Cruelty free*** The colour is gorgeous and totally up my alley. It works well with my complexion, it's very pigmented and it's a nice summer shade. It applies easily and is very creamy but it ends there. Honestly, I had high hopes for this lipstick, especially, since it's described as being ultra-hydrating.  But this dries out my lips like you wouldn't believe. Maybe 10 minutes after application and it dries out my lips. The dried out parts of my lips were crumbling off and peeling off. And it specifically does this whether I exfoliate my lips or not.  It does last a long time on the lips but it's so uncomfortable  and it doesn't sit well that I just want to wipe it off right away. When it comes to eating or even drinking I just have the urge to wi

The Conjuring (Movie Review)

***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn and Roger Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known, though the manifestations a are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially, after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.  I have known of Ed and Lorraine Warren (may they rest in peace) since I was a little kid. They are synonymous with the paranormal, and some of the craziest stories you will ever hear. And have been a part of the most terrifying and famous paranormal cases.  The opening scene is about one of their most famous cases to date with the Annabelle doll. I'm happy that their story is being told on the big screen but people need to remember that things get exaggerated and not every scene happened the exact s
