Wrong Place, Wrong Time (The Morganville Vampires #10.1) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

This is a short story about Richard Morrell, Monica’s (exasperated) older brother. It’s not easy being the son of the most corrupt human in Morganville, while also being the brother of the most outrageous, selfish bully. Add to that a real desire to do some good in the world, and help protect his fellow Morganville residents, and you’ve got a man who has a hard day ahead of him.

But one thing’s for certain: Richard does love his sister. He knows her flaws, but that doesn’t mean he won’t go to the wall for her … and even compromise his ethics, from time to time.

This will be a very bad day to be a criminal in Morganville.

This is another one of those short stories that while being just a few pages long still gives us an insight on a character we have yet to have a point of view from. Richard Morrell is one of those characters in Morganville that while human is still on the vampire payroll whether he likes it or not. He might have been born in one of the affluential families in Morganville he still has to follow the rules like everyone else.

I understand Richard's dilemma. He wants to take care of Morganville's human residents while avoiding the crosshairs of the vampires. I believe he is one of the few humans that Oliver actually respects which is saying a lot. We have seen him multiple times over the course of the series thus far and at one time or another Richard always tries his best to help anyone in need of it.

It's weirdly strange having this scenario where outsides randomly stop in Morganville and and try to rob a bank that has vampires as security guards. To Morganville residents it's a normal night and to these strangers it's a blood bath straight out of a horror movie except these monsters are very much real. I couldn't imagine having their luck and the one guy who is still left alive ended up holding Monica Morrell of all people at gun point before he got thrown by a vampire.

He of course didn't make it. His 'lawyer' ended up giving him a death sentence...the lawyer was a vampire. I honestly would love to see more from Richard's perspective. You can tell he is not a fan of vampires at all and doesn't enjoy the senseless killing that comes with living in Morganville.

Rating:
5 stars on 5. It was a great short read!
