Thrash (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: In this adrenaline-soaked thriller, a hurricane unleashes a feeding frenzy on a town's stranded residents when flood waters draw in a swarm of sharks.  What a better way to enjoy the summer than watching a shark movie? Anyone else had a phase in their childhood where they watched an obscene amount of shark movies? Eventually, I cam across some crazy movies that made you wonder what the writer smoked to come up with some of their ideas. Sand sharks, Sharktopus, and of course Sharknado.  I have to say that this isn't the worst shark movie I've seen. It's not overly complicated, it's well written and the actors were phenomenal! I think what makes it work really well is that it's something that could actually happen. For instance, sharks being in the Saint Lawrence river in Quebec has happened multiple times over the years. Despite people believing that it's not a possibility.  Since I was a little girl, I have h...

Dracula (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: When a 15th-century prince denounces God after the loss of his wife he inherits an eternal curse: he becomes Dracula. Condemned to wander the centuries, he defies fate and death, guided by a single hope - to be reunited with his lost love. When I say that I was on a mission to watch this movie...I'm not kidding! When it first was released in Europe, edits of the movie was all over my social media. I watched countless clips and I had this huge desire to watch it. I have been for the past few months in a season of craving love. I've been reading a ton of love stories and been rewatching quite a few romance movies as well. But this one took the cake! I have no idea why this movie was so hard to track down but the week it was released in Canada I checked my local movie theatre and of course they didn't have it. And the closest movie theatre that did was over 70 km away...I'm not driving that far for a movie. However, I lucki...

Birds Of Prey (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: It's open season on Harley Quinn when her explosive breakup with the Joker puts a big fat target on her back. Unprotected and on the run, Quinn faces the wrath of narcissistic crime boss Black Mask, his right hand man, Victor Zsasz, and every other thug in the city. But things soon even out for Harley when she becomes unexpected allies with three deadly women- Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya.  Someone needs to come and slap me across the face for not having seen this movie sooner! This movie exceeded beyond my wildest expectations! I loved Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn and even though the Suicide Squad movie wasn’t all that great, one shining star was her and her totally embodying Harley. Jared Leto as the Joker? Well…not so much. I’ve always been such a huge fan of DC comics growing up and I used to watch the animated Batman series on video cassette…yeah I’m that old! I’m so happy that as an adult I’ve bee...

In The Lost Lands (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: A witch travels to the Lost Lands in search of a magical power that allows a person to transform into a werewolf.  I was surprised that this movie was based off a short story created by George R. R. Martin but it makes sense to have some of his other works adapted since Game Of Thrones has changed television. I don't know what it is about directors having to cast their wives as the main lead but man this did not work for this movie. I have loved Milla Jovovich in the Resident Evil Franchise, the Fifth Element and a bunch of other movies she's done but her performance fell flat. There were parts of this movie that reminded me a lot of Resident Evil franchise like the close up shots of her eyes. For a second, I thought I started a different movie. I have loved movies that both Milla and Bautista have been in but not together. They just don't mesh well together and their performance felt like a D list movie instead of it starin...

Shazam! (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: We all have a superhero inside of us it just takes a bit of magic to bring it on. In 14 year old Billy Batson's case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam. Still a kid at heart, Shazam revels in the new version of himself by doing what any other teen would do - have fun while testing out his new found powers. But he'll need to master them quickly before the evil Dr. Thaddeus Sivana can get his hands on Shazam's magical abilities. Opening Scene:  It's not very often where we get the background of a villain in the opening scene of the movie. But it worked beautifully the way it was done. We get to see what caused Thaddeus Sivana to grow with hatred over the years. Sivana is in a way a victim of circumstance. He had a father who spoke down to him and a brother that wasn't shy to show his disapproval and on top of it Thaddeus is transported to a magical wizard who says he...

Aquaman (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Once home to the most advanced civilization of Earth, the city of Atlantis is now an underwater Kingdom ruled by the power hungry King Orm. With a vast army at his disposal, Orm plans to conquer the remaining Oceanic people and then the surface world. Standing in his way is Aquaman, Orm's half-human half-Atlantean brother and true heir to the throne. With help from royal counselor Vulko, Aquaman must retrieve the legendary Trident of Atlan and embrace his destiny as protector of the deep.  Opening scene: Now that is how you make a killer opening scene! We're given just enough backstory on Arthur and his parents without feeling exhausted going through 20+ minutes opener exploring who and what he is.  I'm very impressed with the visuals and CGI of the movie. It's so beautiful and captivating. For Atlantis being adapted to the big screen (not animated) it certainly does it justice. Jason Momoa is not my first or even hundre...

Wonder Woman (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary:  Before she was Wonder Woman she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island Paradise, Diana meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that's raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.  I really enjoyed the opening of the movie. The settings alone were marvelous and truly jaw-dropping. It was great how they presented the story of man, how Themyscira came to be and how Diana was created. I've already watched the animated movie of Wonder Woman and was hesitant to how the cinematic one would be able to one up it.  The movie was going beautifully until Gal Gadot acting came into the picture. I don't know how she had such a difficult time acting because every scene was l...

Terminator: Genisys (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Resistance leader John Connor sends an agent back to 1984 to save his mother from a Terminator assassin but the fractured timelines spawns new threats.  The Terminator franchise has lasted for decades (a lot longer than I've been alive) but nothing comes close to the first two movies. Terminator 1 and 2 were just so good which means a lot considering most sequels tend to flop. The following two movies were good and gave us insight to John Connor in different times of his life. However, something new had to come along.  Terminator Genisys is combination of a reboot with very much respecting the OG movies. Let's be honest, Arnold is the face of the Terminator franchise and it doesn't feel right to not have him featured in a movie. I loved that they brought him back and he was the star of the movie. His performance every time is phenomenal and has such an amazing screen presence. One issue I've had with this franchise is the...

Suicide Squad (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Figuring they're all expendable, a U.S. intelligence officer decides to assemble a team of dangerous, incarcerated Supervillains for a top-secret mission. Now armed with government weapons, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other despicable inmates must learn to work together. Dubbed Task Force X, the criminals unite to battle a mysterious and powerful entity, while diabolical Joker launches his evil agenda of his own.  I'm not a fan of the intro to this movie. It was close to twenty minutes and that is just too long. I love Viola Davis and she is a fantastic choice to play Amanda Waller, however, the movie should have started with her since her plan to control these villains is the entirety of the plot. it felt redundant starting the movie with a montage of Dead and Harley Quinn to then have another montage of them when Waller was going over the team members in detail. What made it obvious that those t...

Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (Movie Review)

Image
Summary: It's been nearly two years since Superman's colossal battle with Zod devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless; including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne. Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.  Opening Scene: Introduction of Bruce Wayne and the murder of his parents that shaped him to be the man he is today. I hope with the new Universe that James Gunn is creating I won't have to see pearls hitting the ground anymore. I swear DC fans have developed PTSD from those damn pearls.  It was interesting seeing Bruce's perspective about the attack on Metropolis by General Zod. You can clearly see his hatred growing for Superman with every building being destroyed and person dying due to the attack.  I can understand the vision of t...

Nosferatu (Movie Review)

Image
***This movie will contain spoilers*** Summary: In the 1830s, estate agent Thomas Hutter travels to Transylvania for a fateful meeting with Count Orlok, a prospective client. In his absence, Hutter's new bride, Ellen, is left under the care of their friends, Friedrich and Anna Harding. Plagued by horrific visions and an increasing sense of dread, Ellen soon encounters an evil force that's far beyond her control. I watched this movie last night in theatre with my boyfriend at our local cineplex since they were having a special of $5 per ticket for the next few Tuesdays and this is the first time in a long time I regret my movie pick. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect since I maybe saw the trailer for a few seconds but I expected so much better. I've never left a movie theatre feeling so defiled and needing to go to church the day after. I've seen some disturbing movies over the years but this movie really takes it to another level. I've seen the Terrifier mov...

Man Of Steel (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: With the imminent destruction of Krypton, their home planet, Jor-El and his wife seek to preserve their race by sending their infant son to Earth. The child's spacecraft lands at the farm of Jonathan and Martha Kent, who name him Clark and raise him as their own son. Though his extraordinary abilities have led to the adult Clark living on the fringe of society, he finds he must become a hero to save those he loves from a dire threat.  I've watched a few of the DCEU movies over the last decade but to be honest I haven't really gotten a chance to watch all of them. And with James Gunn heading every DC project I have full confidence that he will usher in a new era of movie making. He's produced and directed some of my favourite childhood movies and growing up I was a DC kid and boy as an adult it has been embarrassing just how bad DC movies have gotten. Recently, they released the trailer for Superman and it looks really go...

The Pope’s Exorcist (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican, uncovers a centuries old conspiracy while investigating a young boy's terrifying possession.  "When we jeer at the Devil and tell ourselves that he does not exist, that is when he is happiest."  -Father Gabriele Amorth  I have known of Father Amorth for many years. He has done tens of thousands of exorcisms and have helped save just as many people. He has had many movies made about him and his experiences and has penned many books in hopes of teaching others and leaving his knowledge behind. His quote about the devil being at his happiest when we mock him rings true. Even if we do not believe doesn't mean it isn't real and cannot effect us. I've had many moments in my life where it felt like I was living my own personal hell on Earth. Now whether that be the devil's direct actions or influence it's hard to say but by the grace of God and prayer God ...

Ready Or Not (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Grace couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch -- she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives. Ready Or Not is definitely a unique movie with a never before scene plot (at least to me). Movies lately have been such a shitshow with things being either rebooted, recycled or just a similar plot with shitty acting. There's never any original material but this movie is definitely something I've never scene before. And I've seen a lot of movies. (correct me in the comments if you've seen a movie similar to this before)  I love that the movie's opening scene is when the Le Domas brothers were young and the family was hunting the newly married ma...

The Incredible Hulk (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Scientist Bruce Banner desperately seeks a cure for the gamma radiation that contaminated his cells and turned him into the Hulk. Cut off from his true love Betty Ross and forced to hide from his nemesis, Gen. Thunderbolt Ross, Banner soon comes face to face with a new threat, a supremely powerful enemy known as the Abomination.  No matter how many times I've watched this movie I never get bored of it. It's a solid movie through and through and even over a decade later it is still a better movie than some of the newer ones being produced. Now that's saying something!  Edward Norton portrayed Bruce Banner perfectly, he was able to demonstrate his emotional tortured side of the aftermath of the Hulk, while also demonstrating the gentle side of Bruce. He carried the movie well and was a natural! Honestly, the entire cast was amazing. Liv Tyler was beyond gorgeous, brought Betty Ross to life in an amazing manner and wasn't an...

Ironman 2 (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: With the world now aware that he is Ironman, billionaire inventor Tony Stark faces pressure from all sides to share his technology with the military. He is reluctant to divulge the secrets of his armored suit, fearing the information will fall into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts and 'Rhodey' Rhodes by his side, Tony must forge new alliances and confront a powerful new enemy. Ironman 2 was another great movie and a good sequel to the first Ironman. It had action packed scenes, new characters being introduced and the marvel universe slowly being built. This movie was great but not as great as the first one. I did notice some inconsistencies within the movie which did take away from the experience. I love a movie that is flawless, 'makes sense' to the audience and the story has a natural flow to it. Unfortunately, there were some scenes that I noticed were either rushed or it wasn't as impactful as it should of been...

Ironman (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: A billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, Tony Stark is conducting weapons tests overseas, but terrorists kidnap him to force him to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he builds an armored suit and upends his captors. Returning to America, Stark refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.  Opening Scene: Tony Stark and his military entourage get ambushed by a terrorist group using weapons from Stark industries. Tony is the only one left from his group and the terrorists have taken him and don't plan on letting him go.  Ironman is known as the movie that helped set up the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I 100% agree. From start to finish it was a great action packed movie that follows a man on his journey to becoming a hero. For a lot of movies that I've seen and reviewed on my blog there are things that I point out that I feel need to be changed or done completely different and I have nothing for thi...

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers**** Summary: Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren take on one of the most sensational cases of their careers after a cop stumbles upon a dazed and bloodied young man walking down the road. Accused of murder, the suspect claims demonic possession as his defense, forcing the Warrens into a supernatural inquiry unlike anything they've ever seen before.  Opening scene: Ed and Lorraine are helping a little boy named David with an exorcism. The demon leaves David alone, unfortunately, Arne invites the demon into him. As if the night couldn't get any crazier, Ed ends up having a major heart attack that was caused by the demon possessing the little boy's body.  This was such an intense and well done movie. I feel that's a theme with reviewing the Conjuring movies. I always say they were well done and executed perfectly. But in all honesty, I loved every single one of them including this one. In this movie, we're expanding and...

Annabelle Comes Home (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Determined to keep Annabelle from wrecking more havoc, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren lock the possessed doll in the artifact room in their house. But when the doll awakens the room's evil spirits, it soon becomes an unholy night of terror for the couple's 10-year old daughter, her babysitter and her friends.  Opening scene:  Ed and Lorraine take the Annabelle doll but on the way home their car mysteriously breaks down in front of a cemetery and a spirit tries to kill Ed by pushing him in the path of a truck. The doll is a beacon for spirits and not even a couple of minutes into their artifact room and other spirits were acting out.  This movie was exactly what I was asking for! I always wanted the universe to expand to show more of these old cases that the Warrens worked on in the past and to expand some more on the artifact room. This movie was spot on amazing, had great actors and the story was rea...

The Nun (Movie Review)

Image
***There will be spoilers in this review*** Summary: When a young nun at a cloistered Abbey in Romania takers her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order's unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun from the Conjuring 2 as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.  Opening scene: Taking place in 1952, we are automatically being reintroduced to the same demonic entity; Valak that the Warrens fought. The demon is hunting down nuns in an abbey and wrecking havoc on their lives. The haunting is so severe that one of the nuns takers her own life to escape the demon and prevent it from possessing her body.  From start to finish, this is a frighteningly well done movie. It brings all the elements from the previous con...
