Ironman (Movie Review)
***This review will contain spoilers***
Summary:
A billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, Tony Stark is conducting weapons tests overseas, but terrorists kidnap him to force him to build a devastating weapon. Instead, he builds an armored suit and upends his captors. Returning to America, Stark refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism.
Opening Scene:
Tony Stark and his military entourage get ambushed by a terrorist group using weapons from Stark industries. Tony is the only one left from his group and the terrorists have taken him and don't plan on letting him go.
Ironman is known as the movie that helped set up the Marvel Cinematic Universe and I 100% agree. From start to finish it was a great action packed movie that follows a man on his journey to becoming a hero. For a lot of movies that I've seen and reviewed on my blog there are things that I point out that I feel need to be changed or done completely different and I have nothing for this one. This is a solid superhero movie but beyond that the character development, the story progression and the captivation that this movie has just is everything that I want to see in a movie.
Tony Stark was a flamboyant billionaire who indulged his desires and made money from selling weapons to the military and after his escape from the hands of a terroristic group he decided to shut down the weapons division and instead build his Ironman suit to destroy the missiles from Stark industries that are still out there and in the hands of those who wish to oppress and create violence. I like that he didn't take any time to start fixing the wrongs that he and his family has done by selling weapons and in fact contributing to the problem on war and weapons.
Obadiah Stane was a snakey dude from the start and wasn't hard to see that he was a huge part of the problem. I'm disappointed that it took Tony being kidnapped while in Afghanistan and tortured to realize that maybe he shouldn't be innovating weapons of mass destruction. Or he should have been on top of things when it comes to his business and make sure that said weapons aren't being sold to the wrong people. But everyone needs their a-hah moment and he definitely had his.
One moment that was hilarious to me was when Obadiah was yelling at a engineer for not being able to refabricate the Ironman suit and the engineer's response is "I'm not Tony Stark". Even with Tony's first model and his blue print sketches they still had a difficult time in getting the suit set up and if it wasn't for the arc reactor they never would have gotten the suit up and running. Tony Stark is the GOAT when it comes to technology and no one can touch him when it comes to that. The only thing I fear is just how far he's willing to go to protect the world from itself. Meaning there's only so much protecting you can do before you strip someone's free will away in the name of keeping them safe.
Rating:
I'm giving Ironman 5 stars on 5. It's everything I want to see in a superhero and action packed movie. There's nothing I would change about it. This was and always will be the movie that helped jumpstart the MCU. Absolutely loved this movie and Downey is the best actor to have played Tony Stark.
