Ready Or Not (Movie Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

Grace couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch -- she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives.

Ready Or Not is definitely a unique movie with a never before scene plot (at least to me). Movies lately have been such a shitshow with things being either rebooted, recycled or just a similar plot with shitty acting. There's never any original material but this movie is definitely something I've never scene before. And I've seen a lot of movies. (correct me in the comments if you've seen a movie similar to this before)

I love that the movie's opening scene is when the Le Domas brothers were young and the family was hunting the newly married man into the family. The movie continues right with the wedding happening on the family's estate and Grace had to pick a card that chooses which game everyone plays. Of course, she picks hide and seek card which essentially means the family has to hunt her down and ritualistically kill her to appease Mr. Le Bail who is a demon of some sort that originally made a deal with the Le Domas family to help them attain power and wealth. What is it with people doing weird shit for money?

Grace is an absolute badass in the movie. Her tenacity and willpower made me cheer her on. She wasn't afraid to adjust and keep trying to find a solution for her survival. There was an equal give and take throughout the story of 'holy shit she's going to die' and 'that's right kill them fuckers!'

Alex seemed standoffish with his family and didn't want to put Grace through the whole ordeal of picking a card. He tried helping Grace and seemed to be steering her step by step to freedom. I honestly was hoping that Alex would have stuck through in helping Grace till the end but alas the fear of losing everything can cripple a person and make them do stupid shit. Like leading a sacrificial ritual to kill his wife. That took a left turn that I kinda was expecting. Grace killed Becky, Alex's mom by bashing her head in again and again. Alex walked in on his mother laying on the ground looking unrecognizable. Any son walking in on something so horrific would have a similar reaction. You're the wife for a day and she's been his mom his whole life. Mom being killed kinda trumps a wife for a day. I honestly thought they had her and almost killed her but the clock runs out and a new dawn is upon Grace.

A good chunk of the Le Domas family thought Mr. Le Basil was complete bullshit but everyone who was still alive exploded and their house burnt down. Grace won the game and essentially took down a family of psychopaths. It felt fitting that a young woman who married into a family only wanted what she never had...a family massacred a family who were ungrateful of what they had and of each other.

Rating:

I'm giving Ready Or Not 5 stars on 5! I absolutely enjoyed this movie and hope there's a sequel or even a prequel of how this whole thing started with Le Domas family. A sequel would be fun and seemed teased when they mentioned another family died in flames similar to how Le Domas estate burned down. This movies is a prime example of what people are willing to do and how primitive they become when money and power is involved. Their greed for continual success and wealth was eventually their downfall. The way Charity was willing to kill her husband Daniel to get to Grace shows the depravity and corruption money can do to someone.
