Ironman 2 (Movie Review)
***This review will contain spoilers***
Summary:
With the world now aware that he is Ironman, billionaire inventor Tony Stark faces pressure from all sides to share his technology with the military. He is reluctant to divulge the secrets of his armored suit, fearing the information will fall into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts and 'Rhodey' Rhodes by his side, Tony must forge new alliances and confront a powerful new enemy.
Ironman 2 was another great movie and a good sequel to the first Ironman. It had action packed scenes, new characters being introduced and the marvel universe slowly being built. This movie was great but not as great as the first one. I did notice some inconsistencies within the movie which did take away from the experience. I love a movie that is flawless, 'makes sense' to the audience and the story has a natural flow to it. Unfortunately, there were some scenes that I noticed were either rushed or it wasn't as impactful as it should of been.
In the movie, Tony 'discovers' a new element called Vibranium to replace Palladium in the arc reactor since he was getting side effects from Palladium poisoning. However, Tony didn't discover a new element. In Captain America :The First Avenger, Howard Stark made a shield out of Vibranium for Steve to use when out on missions. I'm happy Tony ain't dying no more but doesn't make sense why in this movie they would go out of their way to make a scene demonstrating he did when in all reality he didn't. It's not like the comics never mentioned where Vibranium came from. I just found that poor writing and structuring of the story. Instead, what I would have done if we're still going along the lines of Tony, essentially, 'healing' himself, I only would have changed it slightly, with Tony deciphering his father's notes on Vibranium and maybe even mentioning Wakanda. I feel something along those lines would have been better than just Tony 'discovering' a new element.
I'm being happy we get to see Fury and Agent Coulson again. We are introduced to Agent Romanoff aka Black Widow who is such a badass character. I hate that our first introduction of her in this movie is oversexualized. From the way she was interacting with Tony, to him looking her up and finding lingerie pictures of her and even her suit not being zipped up all the way when she fights. The suit thing alone is an accident waiting to happen. With the end credit scene that we get, Agent Coulson ends up in New Mexico finding a hammer in the center of a crater. Thor is on his way...I love the end credit scenes. It helps build up hype for the next movie.
A few other things I found weird is Justin Hammer getting arrested just because Pepper called the cops. Yes, Justin definitely should get arrested but in the middle of the drones attacking in Stark Expo? Felt extremely rushed, I would have preferred if Shield agents came in and took custody of him, we see him getting escorted to his cell and the scene zooms back to show just many 'bad guys' shield has in their custody to keep the world safe. It would have shown just how impactful and in the shadows shield really works in. Another thing I found off was at first the military was upset with Stark not handing over his suit but then after the drones attacked at Stark expo they are honoring both him and Rhodey for destroying said drones. Odd that from one scene to another everything changes and they are happy with him.
Rating:
I'm giving Ironman 2 4 stars on 5. For obvious reasons, it's not getting a perfect rating but overall it still was a kickass movie! We got to see Ironman and War Hammer fighting together, Romanoff kicking some serious ass, and Tony not dying!
