In The Lost Lands (Movie Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

A witch travels to the Lost Lands in search of a magical power that allows a person to transform into a werewolf.

I was surprised that this movie was based off a short story created by George R. R. Martin but it makes sense to have some of his other works adapted since Game Of Thrones has changed television. I don't know what it is about directors having to cast their wives as the main lead but man this did not work for this movie. I have loved Milla Jovovich in the Resident Evil Franchise, the Fifth Element and a bunch of other movies she's done but her performance fell flat. There were parts of this movie that reminded me a lot of Resident Evil franchise like the close up shots of her eyes. For a second, I thought I started a different movie. I have loved movies that both Milla and Bautista have been in but not together. They just don't mesh well together and their performance felt like a D list movie instead of it staring actors that have been around for a long time. It's so tragic that these two are the leads when the secondary and minor characters had better stage presence than them.

I can typically tell when a movie is going to be good with how well it can keep my attention and if I can finish it in one sitting. I have the displeasure to say that it has taken me over several days to watch and finish the movie. It truly was a struggle to finish this movie and I'm going to chalk this one up as a waste of time. I wasn't even going to bother writing a review because I just wanted to put this behind me but here we are.

This won't be a long review because there wasn't much that I enjoyed about it and I don't want to waste too much time than I already have on this God-forsaken movie. The secondary characters really carried the movie, especially, when the main two couldn't keep me engaged for longer than 10 seconds. The movie itself felt like it dragged on and on but once the secondary characters came on screen, they definitely captivated my attention. I will say despite the absolute drag of this movie the lasting lesson of it was be careful what you wish for. The queen hired Gray Alys to have the ability to shapeshift into a wolf while also orchestrating regicide. The problem? Gray Alys ends up skinning the queens lover to obtain the magical power of shapeshifting. The queen made a wish not knowing what sacrifice would be needed to achieve it thus 'be careful what you wish for'.

Rating:

I'm giving this movie 1 star on 5. It would  have been zero but then it wouldn't be fair to the other actors who carried this movie. The main actors really didn't not deliver and beyond that the movie's pacing was atrocious and left a lot to be desired.
