Drama Queen's Last Dance (The Morganville Vampires #9.5) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Another short story from Eve's point of view but this time we see more of Eve's character and inner monologue. In previous books, Eve's unfavourable characteristics started rearing their ugly head. Her flippant behaviour turned up a notch. And normally, I wouldn't care so much but the fact that she would be so brazen and not think things through before acting out in front of strangers which basically could have put her friends lives in danger just made me realize that this wouldn't be the type of person I would want to be friends with or at least close friends.  I can't believe it took this many books into the series to finally see that Eve is a very insecure girl. And she uses her goth outfits to garner attention. It was weird for me to read how in the presence of a new and beautiful girl, Eve sized her up and compared each other. To me that just seemed so weird because you would think growing up around Vampires that she would be used to being around attractive...

New Blood (The Morganville Vampires #0.3) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Summary: This is about Eve and Michael, and life before and after the fire at Shane's house. All from Eve's point of view.  I have said it before and I will say it again, I love short stories from different character's point of view. I'm so used to reading from Claire's point of view that it's nice to have a new perspective, especially, from a Morganville native like Eve. When we are first introduced to Eve we believe from what Claire thinks that Eve is a badass, fearless and go getter. While most of it is true, what we don't see unless we read from Eve's point of view is how absolutely afraid she is of vampires, her family and her fear for her friends.  Before Claire ever came along there was Shane, Michael, and Eve which even back in high school Eve was crushing hard on Michael as written several different times in this short story. It's nice to see the trio and how they looked out for each other before Michael became first a ghost then a vampire a...

Viper And The Farmer (The Morganville Vampires #0.2) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Summary: A Morganville Vampires short story about Myrnin and how/when he was turned.  Interestingly enough, this short story was only available through Wattpad. I love authors who go out of their way to make it easily accessible for their readers to find and read short stories. I hate when they make it difficult to obtain or it's clearly a money grab.  Myrnin is that one character in the Morganville series that you want to know their whole story. He's so quirky and nutty that you wonder just how he came to be and who would be crazy enough to turn him into a vampire.  I am so happy we got this short story because it truly gave us an insight on his backstory. He was sold by his mother so she could help sustain her other children. His father was a loony which is where he gets his mania side from...probably not the best kind of person to turn into a vampire because it doesn't stop the mental illness from progressing. Give them centuries to live and just how unhinged can...

Kiss Of Darkness (Charmed, #2) By: Brandon Alexander (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Something changed Prue Halliwell on New Year's Eve, when a stranger gave her the most passionate kiss of her life. Now Prue feels driven to kiss every man she meets. At first this is fun, but when Prue starts to grow weaker with every kiss, the Charmed Ones know evil is afoot. Can I just say how happy I am that I decided to read this book series!?! I've always loved Charmed since I was a little girl and the fact that so many years later I can expand more into the Charmed Universe just gives me such nostalgia vibes. This book was so good and honestly could have easily been an episode of Charmed that's how well thought out and written it was.  It's nice seeing the sisters interact with each other and essentially it seems like each book is going to be a new storyline or 'episode'. As I have mentioned in my Charmed tv show review, I did in fact buy a replica of the Book of Shadows but I'm surprised to say that t...

Goddess Of Legend (Goddess Summoning #7) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Saved from a car accident by the Water Goddess, photojournalist Isabel visits the time of King Arthur to seduce Lancelot du Lac away from Queen Guinevere. What a terrible way to end what was otherwise a phenomenal book series. The first few books in the series definitely got me hooked but then I noticed a decline in quality of writing making my way through the series which leads me to this crapfest. The start of the book was so promising but then there was no development of character or plot.  I was originally excited to crack this book open and get on my reading journey because the previous book, Warrior Rising, ended with the protagonists heading to an island called Avalon which I was thinking they would make a cameo in this book but alas...guess she couldn't find a way to tie it in like she could with all the other books in the series.  This had so much potential to be the best book in the series but it was like Cast lo...

From Convent To Queen By: Millie Adams (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Confined to a convent for her own protection, Princess Fern is resigned to leading a sheltered life. Until King Ragnar storms in, demanding the bride he was promised! Fern must exchange one prison for another, yet her marriage feels shockingly like liberation. As does the dormant passion her captor ignites…Ragnar has claimed his throne and now, his queen—if only his warrior’s demons were so easily fought. But Fern resurrects the humanity he’d thought lost...and stokes an inferno that threatens to obliterate the convenient boundaries of their royal union! Yet again I found another book while grocery shopping! I don’t know what is going on lately but I keep coming across books while out in the ‘wild’ that I feel compelled to purchase.  When I originally read the summary, I was certain it was set during medieval times because modern day royalty isn’t as exciting in comparison to centuries prior. It definitely threw me for a loop when I ...

She moved cross-country to be close to family and finally settle down in hippie, trippy, nosey Blue Moon Bend. He’s all wrong for Emma, but that doesn’t stop the attraction from boiling over. Niko doesn’t let being friend zoned get in his way. Once he gets his hands—and his mouth—on her, will their friendship survive? Or will he lose everything he’s worked for back in New York to the redhead who dominates his every thought? I swear God is giving me signs after signs because here is another book that called out to me while I was grocery shopping and ta-da! It's another romance novel but this one also hits home in a different manner. I used to never purchase any books while grocery shopping. I ...

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: I found an ancient artifact. It found me four dragon mates who refuse to let me go. One touch of that carved stone, and my quiet life as an anthropologist exploded into chaos. The artifact was a beacon—calling to dragons, claiming me as compatible, marking me as the last fertile human in existence. Now I'm trapped on their mountain estate with four impossibly gorgeous, fiercely protective shifters who insist I'm their fated mate. All four of them. Warin—the alpha with molten gold eyes who fights his possessive instincts but can't stop touching me Torr—the scarred shadow dragon who thinks he's a monster but kisses me like salvation Demeter—the wild storm dragon who gives me freedom with one hand and claims me with the other Lennix—the ancient giant who offers partnership while his massive hands promise so much more They say I need to complete the bonds. Accept their claiming bites, their marks, their knots. Become theirs ...

Warrior Rising (Goddess Summoning #6) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: The Goddesses have had it with the Trojan War. So much devastation all because of some silly male egos. The worst of the bunch is that cocky, handsome brute Achilles. But the only way to stop a man like Achilles is to distract him with something far more pleasurable than combat? Enter Kat, a modern girl from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Goddesses transform her into a Trojan princess, having no doubt that she'll capture Achilles's attention. But can her independent spirit match the unquenchable fire of his epic rage? Goddess only knows? Who doesn't love a story starring sexy Achilles? Better yet? Falling in love with him! I am absolutely in love with Greek mythology and have always been partial to Achilles and his great accomplishments but it's such a tragedy that he died so young.  I have really enjoyed this series thus far but this book kinda left me feeling unfinished. The whole premise of the book was to distract Achilles wit...

The Holly Bibble of Babble On By: Michael Paul Girard (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: At the turn of the millennium, Holly’s lifelong dream of writing music for a major orchestra quickly spirals into a hellish nightmare. Ensnared in a tangled web of deceit at the highest levels of Government, the beautiful thirty-year-old composer is sucked into a lion’s den of debauchery from which there is only one avenue of escape. When a suppressed childhood memory rears its ugly head she wreaks vengeance on the psycho ex-rock star who violates her. Ultimately Holly’s actions land her in the arms of a lover she would never have imagined — even in her wildest dreams. I received this book to review by the author which is why this is so hard to write out...This is the first book where I am DNF. Did not finish and honestly? I gave this book a fair shot but there's too much debauchery and just disgustingness in it that I can't bother to keep reading it. From the summary, you wouldn't think there would be so much NSFW scenes bu...

Sam's Story (The Morganville Vampires #9.1) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

***This will contain spoilers*** Summary: (From the author) I know what you’re thinking. I KNOW! Why? Why did I do … okay, I’ll avoid spoilers, but I hear the question a lot. Well, this story doesn’t answer that, unfortunately, but it does show a little bit of Sam’s history and character. I do plan to write, in detail, a story of Sam and Amelie, and how their romance came to be … but I’m not quite ready yet. This is a little piece of character study that I did to help understand Sam in my mind – who he was, what he felt, how he related to the other characters around him. And if you’re asking WHYYYYY … I can only say that Sam told me it was the right thing to do. Would I do it again? Probably not, because at the time, I didn’t know that we’d continue Morganville for so many more books, and reach so many more readers. But choices get made, and there’s no going back. I think Sam would say that, too. I love when we have a chance to get some more background on different characters from...

Ghost Town (The Morganville Vampires #9) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Deep in the heart of Texas, Morganville is a small college town full of laid-back students and eccentric townies, not to mention the sort of creatures you wouldn't want to run into after dark. Despite their obvious differences, the human and vampire residents of Morganville have learned to coexist, but that doesn't stop genius student Claire Danvers from keeping up her guard. Because in Morganville, nothing is as it seems...While developing a new system to maintain the town's defenses, Claire discovers a way to use the vampires' powers to help keep outsiders from spreading news of Morganville's "unique" situation once they've crossed the city limits. But the new system has an unexpected and possibly deadly consequence: People inside the town start forgetting who and what they are - even the vampires. And when Claire's boyfriend, Shane, and her best friend, Eve, start treating her like a perfect stra...

The Power of Three (Charmed, #1) By: Eliza Willard (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell didn't think reading a magical incantation would really work. But it did. Now Prue can move things with her mind, Piper can freeze time, and Phoebe can see the future. They are the Charmed Ones—the most powerful of witches. But being enchanted has a price. There's a warlock who wants to steal their powers. And he'll do it any way he can—even if it means killing them! As a kid, watching Charmed on Fridays were part of my routine and I absolutely loved it! As an adult, I was being surprised that they had continued the series but in comic book format. I unfortunately, do not have all of them yet. I am waiting till I do so I can just read them consecutively. But! They did develop forty plus books on the sisters which is set during the show but it's an expansion on their adventures and not a retelling of the actual episodes. The first book sorta follows the plot of the pilot episode or 'f...

Goddess Of Love (Goddess Summoning #5) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: The story of the mythical Venus who comes to life to help a nerdy woman find her inner goddess. Pea Chamberlain needs a makeover-shoes, hair, clothes, make-up-if she wants to attract an übersexy fireman. And who could better coax Pea out of her pod than the Goddess of Love, whom she invokes in a moment of desperation? Venus works her magic on Pea, but who will help her when she falls for that same sexy fireman? Could Venus need a love makeover for herself? Check out the five-alarm heat when the Goddess of Love unexpectedly loses her heart. Goddess of Love is the fifth book in the goddess summoning series and is my least favourite thus far. This is the first book where we are simultaneously seeing two couples develop into a full blown soul connection. I'm not sure if there was as much attention to detail given to this particular book but I found it really lacking and a lot of the character development didn't make sense to me at l...

Goddess Of The Rose (Goddess Summoning #4) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: When modern-day Mikki ends up in the strange Realm of the Rose, Hecate has been waiting for her. So too has her gorgeous guardian beast, who soon has Mikki swooning. But to save the realm, Mikki will have to sacrifice her life-giving blood. This is the fourth installment of Cast's Goddess Summoning series and I absolutely loved it! This story had a few different references from Mythology and from a well known story. We had a mix of Beauty and the Beast mixed in with the story of the Minotaur from the Island of Crete. The way Cast interwove everything was definitely different and not something I have read so far. Even when 'the beast' or aka Asterius was retelling how he came to be it was totally different to how we know the story of the Minotaur to be. There have been many renditions of the Minotaur but none that have depicted Cronus as being his father. More so, most renditions depict him as having the body of a man and the...

Kiss Of Death (The Morganville Vampires #8) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Vampire musician Michael Glass has attracted the attention of a big- time producer who wants to cut a demo and play some gigs-which means Michael will have to enter the human world. For this, he's been assigned escorts that include both a dangerous immortal as well as Michael's all-too-human friends. And with that mix of personalities, this is going to be a road trip from hell... When I first started reading this book, I had a sinking feeling and was asking myself if a ghost writer wrote it? The first couple chapters were written completely different to how Caine has written all her previous books in the series. Even the short stories had the same writing style to them. It's hard to pin point exactly what was different but the whole feel of those chapters felt like it was someone who read the previous books and were writing the characters how they thought they would be written. Think of fanfiction writing. It's not quite...

Worth Living For (The Morganville Vampires #7.5) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: This short story dates back to the period shortly after Michael turns vampire, and Shane’s still deeply uncomfortable about it. He’s also still picking fights to work off his rage, which never really helps him. Warning: there’s drinking. And confessions. And secret missions with night vision. Bonus Bishop, and scary battles. Michael and Shane, being heroes together. Which seems about right. Another great short story! One of the oldest friendships (human friendship) is Shane and Michael. And it was nice having a story of them together, especially, after Michael turning into a vampire their relationship has been strained. Shane hasn't been holding back when it comes to jabbing at Michael about the whole vampire thing but at the end of the day he will have Michael's back and protect him, and vice versa.  I loved the perspective being from Shane's point of view for this story. Claire has had thoughts and feelings of doubt when i...

Fade Out (The Morganville Vampires #7) By: Rachel Caine (Book Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Without the evil vampire Bishop ruling over the town of Morganville, the resident vampires have made major concessions to the human population. With their newfound freedoms, Claire Danvers and her friends are almost starting to feel comfortable again…Now Claire can actually concentrate on her studies, and her friend Eve joins the local theatre company. But when one of Eve’s castmates goes missing after starting work on a short documentary, Eve suspects the worst. Claire and Eve soon realize that this film project, whose subject is the vampires themselves, is a whole lot bigger—and way more dangerous—than anyone suspected. Another fantastic book in this wonderful series that keeps on giving. The previous one we finally got the big bad Bishop killed and brought back some normalcy in Morganville. So typically, once you kill the big antagonist, it's hard to keep a story going, however, I'm so happy to say this wasn't the case. I...

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Tired of dating egomaniacs, interior designer Pamela Gray has nearly given up. She wants to be treated like a goddess—preferably by a god. Their first assignment: make Pamela’s wish come true. So Artemis volunteers her golden brother. After all, who better than the handsome God of Light to bring love to this lonely woman? It might be a first, but here in Sin City, where life is a gamble, both god and mortal are about to bet on a high-stakes game of love.. For the third installment of the series, it focuses on Apollo and his journey in falling in love with a human. It's nice that for this book we have recurring characters from the previous one, especially, Apollo since he was known as being a lover of the flesh, never to have fallen...
