The Power of Three (Charmed, #1) By: Eliza Willard (Book Review)

Summary:
Prue, Piper, and Phoebe Halliwell didn't think reading a magical incantation would really work. But it did. Now Prue can move things with her mind, Piper can freeze time, and Phoebe can see the future. They are the Charmed Ones—the most powerful of witches. But being enchanted has a price. There's a warlock who wants to steal their powers. And he'll do it any way he can—even if it means killing them!
As a kid, watching Charmed on Fridays were part of my routine and I absolutely loved it! As an adult, I was being surprised that they had continued the series but in comic book format. I unfortunately, do not have all of them yet. I am waiting till I do so I can just read them consecutively. But! They did develop forty plus books on the sisters which is set during the show but it's an expansion on their adventures and not a retelling of the actual episodes. The first book sorta follows the plot of the pilot episode or 'first episode' of the series but with wayyyy more information and scenes that were not included on tv.
I did buy the first book first just to see if it would be interesting before committing to buying them all. I'm happy to say that I am on my journey to buying the entire series. The little problem is that the books are out of print so it can prove to be difficult tracking them down. Luckily, Thriftbooks is the best spot to find any used books, movies and even comic books that are no longer in production. As a Canadian, it's still so much cheaper to order from Thriftbooks which is a American company and they charge in USD and charge for shipping. We don't really have many options here in Canada to purchase out of production media and most 'Canadian' companies would get the items shipped into Canada anyway so Thriftbooks is my go to and they have an awesome reward system where I have gotten a ton of books for free so it evens out.
This book was a little different to how I expected it to be. I knew from the summary that it would follow the events of the first episode but it added so much more context and scenes that have not been shown on screen. You also get to read the inner thoughts of the sisters and how they view one another which is super cool. One thing we never truly knew was what happened between Phoebe and Roger was that they kissed and Prue found out which is why she was cross with Phoebe. There was another scene where Melinda Warren presented herself to Phoebe as a burnt corpse to forewarn her of future evils (this scene would have amped up the dark themes presented in the show). And to add, Jeremy in the book shapeshifted into a huge snake during his fight with the sisters. A lot of added 'special fx' that would have been nice in the show.
I didn't understand why Melinda Warren's lover's name changed for the book. In it, it says Hugh Montgomery but in the show his name is Matthew Tate and beyond that it says that Marston was the sisters mothers maiden name but we all know it's Halliwell so why the discrepancy?
Rating:
4.5 stars on 5. This was a short and enjoyable read. I was hoping that it would add some more details on the sisters and the start of their Charmed journey which luckily it did. I am looking forward to reading the next few books and coming across something completely new to me and expanding the Charmed Universe.
