Warrior Rising (Goddess Summoning #6) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

The Goddesses have had it with the Trojan War. So much devastation all because of some silly male egos. The worst of the bunch is that cocky, handsome brute Achilles. But the only way to stop a man like Achilles is to distract him with something far more pleasurable than combat? Enter Kat, a modern girl from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Goddesses transform her into a Trojan princess, having no doubt that she'll capture Achilles's attention. But can her independent spirit match the unquenchable fire of his epic rage? Goddess only knows?

Who doesn't love a story starring sexy Achilles? Better yet? Falling in love with him! I am absolutely in love with Greek mythology and have always been partial to Achilles and his great accomplishments but it's such a tragedy that he died so young.

I have really enjoyed this series thus far but this book kinda left me feeling unfinished. The whole premise of the book was to distract Achilles with a modern girl so in enters Kat who is a couples counselor so who better to help Achilles control his other half or berserker entity that possesses him whenever strong emotions overwhelm him. I felt the ending rushed and didn't quite give us that happy ending feeling that we would normally get from the previous books in this series. We know Jackie and Patroklos end up together and follow both Achilles and Kat into a island known as Avalon...I guess that will segue into the next book in the series which focuses on King Arthur and the round table myth.

The epilogue focused more on tying up loose ends, the ending of the goddesses and how they 'altered' the old world. I would rather we gotten a sneak peak on how two lovely couples and the following myrmidons settled into Avalon. Kat and Achilles both wanted to start a family but yet we didn't get any closure on if they got their wish. Epilogues are a great way for an author to give the audience a peak into the protagonists future. Those epilogues typically leave us with that feeling of closure but yet as I was reading it my immediate reaction was 'is that it?!' Very disappointing.

I do find it interesting that the way the goddess summoning 'world' is written that the old and modern worlds are existing at the same time. Almost like time isn't linear but cyclical. Which isn't all that bad since we've got these amazing partnerships that bring two lovers from different worlds and time together.

This book really demonstrated the shitty aspects of the Greek gods. They meddle in human affairs for the fun of it, they interfere to make their own lives easier which is wild to me how selfish they are. I'm of the mindset of with great power comes great responsibility so I wouldn't take the same actions as the goddesses have.

Rating:

I'm giving Warrior Rising 4 stars on 5. I was eating this book up like you wouldn't believe it! Which funny enough that here I was reading a book starring an amazingly fit Greek hero while there is this man at the gym I go to that has arms that would even put Achilles to shame. Maybe that's why I was enjoying this book so much. However, the ending while I'm happy Achilles got his happy ending, I was disappointed we didn't get that final insight on his happily ever after. I know Cast will give us little updates on different couples in different books but darn it, I want that update now! Overall, it was a good book but not the best in the series.
