Goddess Of Love (Goddess Summoning #5) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

The story of the mythical Venus who comes to life to help a nerdy woman find her inner goddess. Pea Chamberlain needs a makeover-shoes, hair, clothes, make-up-if she wants to attract an übersexy fireman. And who could better coax Pea out of her pod than the Goddess of Love, whom she invokes in a moment of desperation? Venus works her magic on Pea, but who will help her when she falls for that same sexy fireman? Could Venus need a love makeover for herself? Check out the five-alarm heat when the Goddess of Love unexpectedly loses her heart.

Goddess of Love is the fifth book in the goddess summoning series and is my least favourite thus far. This is the first book where we are simultaneously seeing two couples develop into a full blown soul connection. I'm not sure if there was as much attention to detail given to this particular book but I found it really lacking and a lot of the character development didn't make sense to me at least.

We are back again in Tulsa with a cameo from Persephone herself introducing Venus to the city she has fallen in love with. Venus comes across Pea who inadvertently summoned the goddess to help her charm her fireman neighbor. This sounds like a start to a sexy story but it took so many left turns that it ended in a way I wasn't expecting nor liked.

I loved that Venus helped Pea actualize her inner sexy goddess, she helped guide her on haircare and how to style for her body. Pea finally gained confidence in herself which I absolutely loved. She did finally realize that Griffin; the sexy fireman isn't worth her time if he can't even bother remembering her without an attractive woman around to catch his eye.

I don't like the character of Griffin whatsoever. What do you mean he met Pea multiple times prior to her working on her appearance and he never once acknowledged or remembered her. We later find out that his father bailed on his family and he had to be the man of the house at a young age while looking after his four sisters...he was painted as the sensitive type who just wants to find love but yet can't remember our girl Pea? Get the fuck out of here. Venus eventually prompts Pea to keep her options open for someone better so the god Vulcan which I feel pairs well with Pea meets her and they develop a connection instantly. They understand what it feels like to be an outsider, finding it hard to fit in and they develop that love for one another. One thing that annoyed me was that Vulcan was described as having blue eyes then the next paragraph as having dark eyes...which is it?

Vulcan and Pea are the emotionally tied couple that understand each other on a deeper level versus Venus and Griffin are the vapid, good looking couple. I do not like the pairing of Venus and Griffin whatsoever. I didn't understand why Venus would pursue something with Griffin when she knew how he so blatantly ignored Pea and she became close friends with her. It felt extremely disloyal and shady. For the 'goddess of love' she was written as making poor choices. Once she revealed herself to Griffin, he freaked out on her like I expected. I'm of the belief that the first reaction tends to be the real reaction/opinion.

I HATED that Vulcan and Griffin switched bodies. Since Griffin became injured, Vulcan switched bodies with him since his soul would be able to recover from such an injury but then he loses his immortality and becomes mortal. First of all, what the fuck! A great 'god' can't live out a mortal life and go back to his position? Apollo did in Goddess Of Light. He decided to reincarnate as a human while his sister Artemis took over his responsibilities thus leaving the audience to assume that once he lives out his mortal life he will go back to his position. But Vulcan can't?! I feel like a joke that Griffin became a god when he didn't deserve that position. And beyond that, how weird and gross is it that Griffin's body and Pea are now paired while Vulcan's body and Venus are together...It annoyed me that Vulcan's disability disappeared from his body since Griffin's soul didn't have any while Griffin's body developed a disability similar to Vulcan's body. Only Pea can accept that? Is the great Venus not able to accept that? Not to mention, Griffin's sisters met Venus as 'his love' but yet Pea introduces herself as the woman he loves...kinda crazy on that mix up. It feels like Cast didn't know where the story was going to end and she finished it this way.

Rating:

I'm so sad to rate this 1 star on 5. I have really enjoyed this series but it feels like the creativity and attention to detail has been decreasing the last two books in this series. I did enjoy the previous one where I could ignore some of the serious issues but this one I can't accept because the ending was just terrible. It didn't leave me satisfied at all and I questioned why I wasted time reading it. I'm taking a little break from this series because it's not giving me the reader feel good like it used to. Which is terribly upsetting because Cast is one of my favourite authors but this time around it was a dud for me.
