Meg 2: The Trench (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Jonas Taylor leads a research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal, prehistoric sharks and relentless environmental plunderers, they must outrun, outsmart and outswim their merciless predators. Opening scene: Set 65 Million years ago during the Cretaceous period. We see the Tyrannosaurus Rex chasing 'Snappers' or Rauisuchians who then gets eaten by a Megalodon. I quite liked this opening because it visually showed us the circle of life during that time period.  Sequels always tend to be worse than the original movie and alas this movie is not an exception. The first movie was phenomenal because it gave us so much action, we got attached to the characters and it felt like I was on the same journey as them. This go around man there w...

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (Movie Review)

Image
*This review will contain spoilers* Summary: The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control. During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she's hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey's new abilities to rule the galaxy.  There goes 2 hours of my life I'm never going to get back wasted on watching this movie. I don't know why I keep doing this to myself. I think it's because I've invested so much time into watching these movies that I can't give up now or I'm holding on and praying a good X-Men movie is going to come out. But alas this movie misses the mark. From lack of structure in the story to yet again more plot holes. I'm afraid I won't be holding back punches to ano...

Logan (Movie Review)

Image
*This review will contain spoilers* Summary: In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X at a remote outpost on the Mexican border. His plan to hide from the outside world gets upended when he meets a young mutant who is very much like him. Logan must now protect the girl and battle the dark forces that want to capture her.  This movie has garnered a lot of success and has amazing reviews but I just don't get it! I found this movie seriously underwhelming and a big let down. I grew up watching the X-Men movies from the 2000's and I loved them. Over the years there has been a decline in the quality of X-Men movies being produced and the story lines have more holes than Swiss cheese. This movie, unfortunately, is no exception.  X-Men: Days of Future Past  I did quite enjoy overall, however, there were quite a bit of plot holes that were never discussed or even mentioned. And it's not like we will get those answers from the new X-Men movies that feature...

Peppermint (Movie Review)

(This review contains spoilers) Summary: A grieving mother transforms herself into a vigilante following the murders of her husband and daughter, eluding the authorities to deliver her own personal brand of justice. I am surprised that there wasn't more hype around this movie. Granted there were inconsistencies and quite a bit left to be desired but otherwise not a bad movie at all! Riley North witnessing the murder of her family during a drive by while suffering a head injury would be traumatic for anybody and anyone in that position would need some psychiatric help. But the inconsistencies in the first 10 minutes of the movie was beyond annoying.  With Riley obtaining a gunshot wound to the head, she needed to be rushed into surgery and of course in these types of situations the surgeons will cut/shave the injury area but they would never just give a patient a whole God-damn haircut. I'm not sure if it was decided to give her a haircut to demonstrate the drastic change in h...

Ouija: Origin Of Evil (Movie Review)

Image
(((((Please be warned there are spoilers))))) Movie Summary: In 1960's California, a fake medium's daughter tries to communicate with her late father through a Ouija board, but unleashes a demon instead. This movie is the prequel of the movie Ouija which I have already reviewed. The review for the movie Ouija is here. In the movie we are introduced to the Zander family. The widowed mother Alice and her two daughters Paulina and Doris. Due to losing her husband, Alice becomes the sole provider for her family and to earn some sort of income she performs séances to help her clients get closure from their passed loved ones. She makes money off of scamming people and she uses both her daughters to do it. Personally, I think it's really fucked up to exploit someone's pain and grief to make a few quick bucks. But using her own logic, through deceit she is able to provide some sort of comfort and closure. It does not take too long for Alice to incorporate the po...

Captain Marvel (Review)

Image
((((Please be warned there will be spoilers)))) Movie Summary: Captain Marvel is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls. Living on Earth in 1995, she keeps having recurring memories of another life as U.S. Air Force pilot Carol Danvers. With help from Nick Fury, Captain Marvel tries to uncover the secrets of her past while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the evil Skrulls. The visuals for the opening scene was great and it was captivating up until you realize there was no monologue included. And all the smaller scenes afterwards were just random and chaotic. I understand that Vers aka Carol's mind is chaotic due to the lack of memories but just because the protagonist has a chaotic mind doesn't mean the viewers should have one as well. Personally, I think we should've had Vers/Carol doing a monologue in the opening scene, along the lines of "I ...

Insidious: The Last Key (Movie Review)

Image
Movie Summary: Parapsychologist Elise Rainier receives a disturbing phone call from a man who's house is haunted. The disturbing part? His address; 413 Apple Tree Lane in Five Keys, New, Mexico. The home where Elise grew up as a child. With her investigative partners, Elise travels to the Five Keys to confront and destroy her greatest fear. The demon that she accidentally set free years earlier.  Opening Scene: We start off right away with a flashback of Elise as a child where she grew up in New Mexico, Five Keys penitentiary in 1953. We get a little of the jump scares and get an insight to young Elise's childhood, Her mother was caring and understanding. Her father was a harsh man who rules the household with an iron fist. When punishing Elise, she finds herself in the basement and unfortunately gets in contact with a demon with keys as fingertips who causes the death of her mother.  Returning back to her childhood house, you can see just how troubled Elise is b...

DeadPool 2 | Review

Image
(((There will be spoilers))) Movie Summary: Our favourite sarcastic and wisecracking mercenary DeadPool meets Russell, an angry teenage mutant who lives at an orphanage. When Russell becomes the target of Cable, a genetically altered soldier from the future. Deadpool makes it his mission to save the boy from a terrible death. DeadPool ends up teaming up with powerful mutants to hopefully change the present, future, and the past. Of course before we even have a word spoken in the movie we have a Wolverine reference more so concerning the Logan movie. In the opening scene, we see typical DeadPool acting depressed and self-destructive. No, I really mean literally. At least on the self-destructive part. He lights up a bunch of oil filled barrels and we have a huge explosion DeadPool style. Funny enough, we have a foreshadowing where DeadPool tells the audience he will die in this movie. You gotta enjoy him breaking the fourth wall every chance he gets. That is where I find the...

The Mummy 2017 (Movie Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers.) Summary: Though safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia, and terrors that defy human comprehension. Main Cast: Tom Cruise (Nick Morton), Sofia Boutella (Ahmanet), Annabelle Wallis (Jenny Halsey) and Russell Crowe (Dr. Henry Jekyll). I will say that for the first 10 minutes of the movie they really didn't structure the scenes of the movie well or try to keep a more mysterious air as well. In all honesty, it feels like they just put a few disjointed scenes together. There truly was no flow to the introduction of this movie. First scene we see crusaders in England 1277 AD and then transitions to the same area but in modern day time. Then shows the connection of the second crusade and Egypt. Furthermore, we see Ahmanet's story on how she was meant to become the next ...

A Quiet Place (Movie Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers within this review.))) Summary:  If they hear you, they hunt you. The Abbott family are in the midst of a post-attacked world where creatures that have insurmountable hearing abilities which causes this family to stay quiet to stay alive. One little peep and they could lose their life. I don't know why when I quickly watched the trailer on Facebook I thought this movie was about a house that was possessed and if they spoke the demon would come out. Not going to lie, I thought my original impression of what the movie was compared to what it is was a heck of a lot better. Within the first five minutes of the movie my movie companion kindly reminded me that this movie actually contained creatures and not demons.  When we are first introduced to the Abbott family they are searching through a grocery store for supplies and right away we see the little routine they put in place; not wearing shoes, picking things up carefully and using...

Split (Movie Review)

Image
((((((There will be spoilers in my review...you have been warned.)))))) Summary:  3 teenage girls are abducted by a man with a diagnosed 23 personalities. The girls must try and escape before the frightful and dominant 24th personality takes control and wreaks havoc on them all. I'm sorry but these girls survival instincts are total garbage. Are you seriously going to tell me that white suburban girls will freeze and not even try to escape or at least fight when someone kidnaps them? Actually, you know what not very surprising. All I know for sure is that I would be beating the motherfucker down for even attempting to kidnap me. But we can see right away the first personality introduced to the audience is a germaphobe.  Why didn't all the girls storm him? Anyone ever heard of join forces and conquer the enemy? It's quite obvious that when "Barry" met with his psychologist that he was sizing her up. Evidently, a different personality was pretending ...

Underworld: Blood Wars (Movie Review)

Image
(((((((There will be spoilers))))))) Summary: Death dealer Selene must fight both the Lycan clan and the vampire faction that betrayed her from brutal attacks. Joining her as allies are David and his father Thomas, while she embarks on a quest to end the eternal war between both races even if it means sacrificing herself in the process. I like the opening scene. We got flashbacks and feel like there is no gap between movies. It feels like we're dropped right back into where the last movie ended. Essentially, there is a fluidity between the beginning of this film and the last one. It seems that time does not help a vampire's acting ability. When Semira was with the other council members deciding their own fate you could easily tell that she wanted Selene badly. In my head while I was watching this scene I thought to myself "Is she serious right now?" Bad acting skills indeed for Semira. But good acting skills to the actress playing Semira. I knew something wa...

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (Movie Review)

Image
(((((There will be spoilers))))))) Summary: Immediately following the end of Retribution, Humanity is on its last legs of survival. It is up to Alice and her allies to come together and finally put an end to Umbrella. Alice returns to where it all started; The Hive in Raccoon City.  Here is one issue that I am having with the story line right off the bat with this movie. The origin of the T-virus came up but in this movie it is stated that it was created by Dr. James Marcus, however, in the second movie Resident Evil: Apocalypse the T-virus was created by Doctor Ashford for his daughter Angie. So which one is it? Dr. Marcus that created it or Dr. Ashford? Plus this movie never went back to Dr. Ashford so now we have an inconsistency within the film and I hate inconsistencies in movies. Then we find out that it was actually Dr. Issacs who has full control of Umbrella since the beginning. That definitely was a plot twist. Especially, since Alice killed Dr. Issacs in a pre...

Get Out (Movie Review)

Image
((((((There will be spoilers. Y'all have been warned...))))) Summary: Chris (Daniel Kaluuya) and his girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams) has reached meeting the parents phase of dating and are set to stay for the weekend at Rose's parents house; Missy and Dean. Chris will quickly realize that her family's behavior is a lot more disturbing on a psychological level than just accommodating.  And Chris will want to get out fast, but will he? A white car following me while playing old tunes? Yeah, I'd fucking freak out and be on my guard. How the young black man didn't just start running away I have no idea why. Not going to lie to y'all I screamed so loudly when the driver just sneaked up on the young man and kidnapped him. Little side note, creepy fucking music but that was the whole point.  Okay, another stupid side note, Chris didn't look like he knew how to shave and actually nicked himself. I have a sneaky suspicion that that was a woman's ...
