Circus Of The Damned (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #3) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: In Circus of the Damned a rogue master vampire hits town, and Anita gets caught in the middle of an undead turf war. Jean-Claude, the Master Vamp of the city, wants her for his own-but his enemies have other plans. And to make matters worse, Anita takes a hit to the heart when she meets a stunningly handsome junior high science teacher named Richard Zeeman. They're two humans caught in the crossfire-or so Anita thinks. This has been the best book so far in this series! We've got new bad guys, new supernatural creatures and a whole lot of violence. Just up my alley. I love that this world keeps expanding and we are still being introduced to new supernatural creatures. We got to meet werewolves, a giant cobra and a Lamia. Still not clear on where this giant cobra came from other than it has something to do with magic. I am not a fan of snakes and reading about them definitely put me on edge. Yet again Hamilton has this knack for being...

Guilty Pleasures (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #1) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(This review will contain spoilers) Summary: Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: re-animating the dead and killing the undead who take things too far. But when the city’s most powerful vampire asks her to solve a series of vicious slayings, Anita must confront her greatest fear—her undeniable attraction to master vampire Jean-Claude, one of the creatures she is sworn to destroy... This book is such a fantastic intro to Anita Blake's world. It is so well written and really captivated my attention. I just couldn't put it down. I kept making time in my day to have a chance to read it because it's so damn good. It's a lot different in comparison to other vampire novels. Everyone else loves to romanticize vampires and make them seem a lot nicer than you would think vampires are. A lot of authors like to humanize vampires and the protagonist seems to always need their help. But not Laurell K. Hamilton! From the get go it...

I Heart You, You Haunt Me By: Lisa Schroeder (Book Review)

Image
(This review contains spoilers) Summary: Ava can't see or touch him, unless she's dreaming.  She can't hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind.  Most would think she's crazy, but she knows he's here.  Jackson. The boy Ava thought she'd spend the rest of her life with.  He's back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.  This is definitely an interesting read, especially, since the book is written in verse. Aside from reading poetry or some of the classics, I've never come across a book in the young adult section written in verse. This book has about 200 pages but if compressed would probably be about 15-20 pages. It really is a short read but it's definitely enjoyable!  This is about a 15 year old girl named Ava who lost her boyfriend Jackson. This is a story about loss, grieving and learning to be able to move on. At 15 I did not give 2 shits about guys. I was too wrapped up in my own world to really notice the opp...

Divine By Choice (Partholon #2) By: P.C. Cast (Book Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) Summary:  Shannon Parker has finally come to terms with life in the mythical world of Partholon. She loves her centaur husband, her connection to the goddess Epona and the pampering that comes with both! She's almost forgotten her old life on Earth, especially, when she discovers she's pregnant...Then a sudden burst of power sends her back to Oklahoma. Without magic, Shannon can't return to Partholon and so she needs to find help. Trouble is, it might take the form of a man as tempting as her husband. And along the way she'll discover that being divine by mistake is a lot easier than being divine by choice.  The first book was a great joy for me to read and as for the sequel well let's just say that it was a little bit predictable. Shannon being pregnant came to no surprise to me because in most stories once the main evil is vanquished and the heroine finds her true love next comes a pregnancy. Of course, once Sh...

Divine Beginnings (Partholon #0.5) By: P.C Cast (Book Review)

Image
((( This review will contain spoilers))) Summary: Go back in time, fifty years before the events of New York Times bestselling author P.C. Cast's Partholon books... Something isn't right at Guardian Castle, and Aine can't figure out what. As Healer, she's supposed to be making things better, but there's a darkness that can't be brightened. And then Aine finds an injured Fomorian--winged, dark, blood-thirsty and inherently evil. Or is he? Because there's something about Tegan that Aine can't resist...and once they've shared blood, Aine realizes that everything she's always believed is going to be cast aside....  As far as short stories go I really enjoyed this one. I read the first three books in this series almost ten years ago and I absolutely loved them. I don't remember much of the plot other than there was a bunch of centaurs and goddesses. So, this prequel is a nice introduction into the world of Partholon.  We are ...

A Shiver Of Light (Merry Gentry #9) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers in this review))) Summary: Merry Gentry, ex-private detective and full time princess, is now the mother of triplets, a rarity in the high ranks of faerie. And not everyone is happy about it, including Taranis, King of Light and Illusion. He's using the human courts to sue for visitation rights, claiming that one of the babies is his. To save herself and her children, Merry will use the most dangerous powers in all of faerie: a god of death, a warrior known as the Darkness, the Killing Frost, and a king of nightmares. They are her lovers, and her dearest loves, and they will face down the might of the high courts of faerie while trying to keep war from spreading to innocent humans in Los Angeles, who are in danger of becoming collateral damage.  First question! Who was the fucking idiot that wrote this summary? Because the summary comes no where close to even describing the book itself. The summary is what I wish the book was; enticing, imagin...

Swallowing Darkness (Merry Gentry #7) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) Summary: I am Meredith, princess of faerie, and at long last, I am with child;twins, fathered by my royal guard. Now I must stay alive to see my children born, as conspirators from every court plot against me and mine. They seek to strip my guards, my lovers, from me by poisoned word or cold steel. But I still have supporters, and even friends, among the goblins and the sluagh who will stand by me. Those who would defy and destroy me are destined to pay a terrible price. To protect what is mine, I will sacrifice anything, even if it means waging a battle against my darkest enemies and making the most momentous decision ever made as princess of faerie.  In this novel, so much has happened in very little time with a lot of story development taking place and I feel would have been the perfect way to end the series. The fact that there are 2 more books after this already published and more being worked on to me means one of two things...

True Blood | Season 2 Episode 2: Keep This Party Going (Review)

Image
(((This review will contain spoilers))) This episode contains a lot of scenes that are very much night and day to each other. We've got Jason at the Light of Day conference already making an enemy/friend with Luke who envy's Jason's charismatic personality and his closeness with the Newlin's. We also have Sam at Merlotte's dealing with the new crappy waitress Daphne, running his business and Maryann always showing up everywhere he is. On the flip side, we have poor Lafayette fighting to stay alive while trying to escape this terrible nightmare. I do have to applaud the phenomenal work of the leg prop! It looked gory and very realistic as well.  Unfortunately, it does get worse for Lafayette. He successfully frees himself from the torture contraption but he ends up getting shot by none other than Ginger. To top it all off, Pam, Eric and, Chow feed from Lafayette and we are left wondering if we will ever see him again. By the way, Eric's new hairstyle ...

Mistral's Kiss (Merry Gentry #5) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

Image
***Please be warned that there will be spoilers*** Summary: I am Princess Meredith, trapped in the kingdom of faerie, compelled to conceive a child, an heir to the throne, by engaging some of the realm's most beautiful men. Now Mistral, Queen Andais's new captain of the guard, has risked the Queen's jealous wrath to come to my bed. Our joining has reawakened old magic, mystical power so ancient that no one stands against it and lives...not even my strongest and most favored: my Darkness and my Killing Frost. Not even Mistral himself, my Storm Lord. But because Mistral has helped to bring this magic forth, he may live another day. If I can reclaim control of the fey power that once was, there may be hope for me and my reign in faerie. I might yet quell the dark schemes and subterfuges surrounding me. Though shadows of obsession and conspiracy gather, I may survive.  I'm confused by who wrote and edited this book because the first half was so not the Laurell...

True Blood Season 2 | Episode 1: Nothing But The Blood (Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers included in this review))) Starting season 2 with a grotesque murder, welcome back to Bon Temps! Luckily, the person that was murdered with their heart ripped out stuffed in Andy's car is none other than Miss Jeanette. The woman who gave Tara and her mother exorcisms. But Miss Jeanette ended up being a fake and was faking the exorcisms to scam Tara and her mother out of money. But that leaves a mystery as to where Lafayette is. Which we quickly discover is chained with several other people to a contraption that is straight out from the movie Saw.  I will admit despite Maryann's sick fascination with people who need help, she did end up saying exactly what we all were thinking and wanted to say to Tara's mother. Tara's mother was and still is a terrible person. She only needed Tara when she was an alcoholic but now that she is all better? Passes judgment and turns her back on her own daughter. Extremely disgraceful! It also seemed Mary...

True Blood | Season 1 Episode 12: You'll Be The Death Of Me (Review)

Image
(((Please be advised there are spoilers))) It is quite eerie seeing Drew aka Rene acting suspicious and seeing his demeanor change right before our eyes. What is stranger is a church is interested in a murderer and helping fund his defense. Granted Jason isn't the murderer but it is strange for a church to have a vested interest. But Rene is such a sneak. Cutting cables in Sookie's car to finally get her alone. Everything is finally falling into place when it comes to Rene. Arlene's kids find his video tapes and Sam connects Rene's scent to the killer's. At the end of the day it was Sookie who saved herself and killed Rene/Drew with a shovel. I love that we had both Sam and Bill on the ground unable to help but Sookie was the hero instead of the damsel in distress.  It did feel a bit anti-climactic with how easily Rene got bested by Sookie. Granted for all his other victims he had the element of surprise. I think for him being the antagonist for an entire ...

True Blood | Season 1 Episode 11: To Love Is To Bury (Review)

Image
(((Please be advised there are spoilers!)))) Bill is getting on my last damn nerve. His self-righteous and better than thou attitude towards his own kind is getting tiring. Imagine being a powerful creature but only weeping and reminiscing of the olden days. What a waste immortality is on our poor Mr. Compton.  I do have to say I am not a squeamish but damn vampire remains are fucking disgusting. Let's be honest, you don't really know someone till you are cleaning up the mess of a dead body with them. Morbid sense of humour, eh? I really am happy that Jason is finally getting a grip with the whole Amy situation because he was going down a rabbit hole. It's crazy to me how Amy is able to rationalize everything. It's sad to lose Amy because it is leading Jason down a worse path than when she was alive. I understand he is devastated of losing her but for him to take responsibility for her death is sad.  Terry Bellefleur is a mood and a half! "I can't...

True Blood: Season 1 Episode 5 Sparks Fly Out (Episode Review)

Image
((((There are spoilers)))) Getting right into the episode the rift between Sookie and Bill is quite understandable. Just knowing him and being associated with him has brought on a lot of change and danger. To Sookie all this change is disruptive to the little and simple life she has created for herself. At the same time such change might be what Sookie needs to finally thrive and live. But with him? Hell no! Jason is dumber than a bag of rocks. Doing V yet again? That is just asking for trouble to happen. And that trouble is him hallucinating. It's incredible how smooth he can be while high but isn't he forgetting Dawn fairly quickly? Bill sneakily listening in on everyone, how not shocking! Bill is quite something when he's got his Southern charm on full blast. However, when you see the truth of what is Bill Compton there is not much that he can do to deter our eyes from what he really is; manipulative, cold and a vampire. I do find it interesting that he can...

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 (Movie Review)

Image
((((((This Review Contains Spoilers))))))))) Summary: Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) teams up with her closest friends and allies, including Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), Gale (Liam Hemsworth) and Finnick for the ultimate mission. All together, they leave District 13 to liberate the citizens of Panem and to assassinate President Snow, who is consumed with the thought of killing Katniss. However, what lies ahead is a long road of traps, dangerous enemies and moral choices that will determine the future of a Nation.  Opening Scene: This is the problem that I have with movie franchises that decide to divide the final part of a story into multiple movies. Or in simpler terms, dividing up one movie into multiple parts. For me, I feel like I have to re-watch the previous movie because I'm not up to date with the story. With opening scenes you have to orchestrate them just right or we the audience feel as if we are being dropped in the middle of the story. The opening scene...
