True Blood | Season 2 Episode 2: Keep This Party Going (Review)

(((This review will contain spoilers)))

This episode contains a lot of scenes that are very much night and day to each other. We've got Jason at the Light of Day conference already making an enemy/friend with Luke who envy's Jason's charismatic personality and his closeness with the Newlin's. We also have Sam at Merlotte's dealing with the new crappy waitress Daphne, running his business and Maryann always showing up everywhere he is. On the flip side, we have poor Lafayette fighting to stay alive while trying to escape this terrible nightmare. I do have to applaud the phenomenal work of the leg prop! It looked gory and very realistic as well.

Unfortunately, it does get worse for Lafayette. He successfully frees himself from the torture contraption but he ends up getting shot by none other than Ginger. To top it all off, Pam, Eric and, Chow feed from Lafayette and we are left wondering if we will ever see him again. By the way, Eric's new hairstyle is a winner! But again any hairstyle looks fantastic on him. Can Bill pick it up? Eric has mentioned on several occasions a vampire named Godric who is missing in Texas. The way that Eric speaks of him is indicative to how close they might be to each other. Texas might just be the next place we'll get to see Sookie and Eric. (Bill stay the fuck home).

Jason definitely has a charismatic and charming personality that bewitches almost everybody with a weak mind. Truthfully, it kind of reminds me of glamour but Jason is doing it subconsciously. I just find it so hypocritical that he is pretending to be this bad ass vampire killer when it was Amy who killed Eddie and Jason was going to free him. Jason being tied up with these church folk seems wrong but then again many in real life tend to be a part of groups that they don't belong to. They are just there to find out who they are and what they represent. Hopefully, we find Jason blooming elsewhere and having an epiphany.

One of the most interesting scenes was Maryann in Merlotte's and it's regular customer's had this synergy going on. They were dancing and carefree and it seemed as if Maryann was feeding off of their energy. But what was more telling was that Marryann was able to force Sam to shapeshift into his dog form. She is definitely a greater being than what we have previously witnessed on True Blood.

Lastly for this episode, Sookie stupidly brings Jessica to see her parents and it ends in a fucking disaster. I can understand why Sookie caved and brought Jessica to see her parents but she was so naive in believing that Jessica would be able to control herself. Bill was right in saying it was stupid for her to bring Jessica there when what we ended up learning is that her mom is a submissive wife with no backbone and her father is a real piece of work who likes to use his belt to assert dominance. A total cluster fuck when we add in Jessica trying to kill her dad in front of her family. I would say i'm surprised that Sookie didn't have the foresight to see something so terrible happening but then again she seems to be very blind to logical reasoning. Baby vamp with no self control? Keep her home till someone who can actually control her is around. Simple logical reasoning! It feels as though the writers are writing the character of Sookie to be a dumb blonde with tits and a little cool ability. She gets very irritating quite easily.
