True Blood Season 2 | Episode 1: Nothing But The Blood (Review)

(((There will be spoilers included in this review)))

Starting season 2 with a grotesque murder, welcome back to Bon Temps! Luckily, the person that was murdered with their heart ripped out stuffed in Andy's car is none other than Miss Jeanette. The woman who gave Tara and her mother exorcisms. But Miss Jeanette ended up being a fake and was faking the exorcisms to scam Tara and her mother out of money. But that leaves a mystery as to where Lafayette is. Which we quickly discover is chained with several other people to a contraption that is straight out from the movie Saw.

I will admit despite Maryann's sick fascination with people who need help, she did end up saying exactly what we all were thinking and wanted to say to Tara's mother. Tara's mother was and still is a terrible person. She only needed Tara when she was an alcoholic but now that she is all better? Passes judgment and turns her back on her own daughter. Extremely disgraceful! It also seemed Maryann was finally saying everything Tara never had the courage to say to her.

There are things about Sookie that is so annoying. One of which is her holier than thou attitude when it comes to Bill and the Vampire Culture. Judging and being upset with Bill about him siring Jessica is an overreaction. She should of realized him going to a tribunal, there would be consequences for killing a vampire for her.  The fact that her first reaction is that she doesn't want to be around Jessica because it would be a reminder that her death was her fault, that is extremely selfish. For being excluded her entire life, one would expect her to be more open minded.

Not only has she dealt with the death of her grandmother but she now finds out about the death of her great-uncle. Sookie comes to the realization that her great-uncle was murdered by Bill. When she smeared blood over the envelope holding the check to her great-uncle's estate, it truly was symbolism for blood money. She is getting compensated for getting a family member killed. I get that Bill is her boyfriend but if I had a boyfriend with the ability to easily kill people I wouldn't be blabbering all about the people who wronged me or abused me. I'm happy that Sookie finally apologized to Jessica but it's so darn annoying when she doesn't have an understanding about vampire nature nor tries to understand it. It's frustrating seeing her trying to force him into a human mold.

We finally find out how Sam and Maryann know each other and boy is it disturbing. 17 year old shapeshifter Sam comes across Maryann which ends up with them having sex, she gets all shaky and vibrates during sex and Sam steals her money and jewelry. In present time, he tries to give it back but it seems she wants something else altogether. What that is? We'll find out in later episodes.

Poor Lafayette has been kidnapped by Eric which I'm assuming is because he sold vampire blood. We found out in season 1 that it's a big no no. Everyone else in the basement got killed and all that is left is Lafayette. Eric is quite attractive, even when he's highlighting his hair. Bill and Eric are day and night. While Bill tries to suppress his vampiric urges, Eric embraces them and damn does he look good. A little bit gory watching him bite someone in half but nonetheless still looks great.
