I Heart You, You Haunt Me By: Lisa Schroeder (Book Review)

Image
(This review contains spoilers) Summary: Ava can't see or touch him, unless she's dreaming.  She can't hear his voice, except for the faint whispers in her mind.  Most would think she's crazy, but she knows he's here.  Jackson. The boy Ava thought she'd spend the rest of her life with.  He's back from the dead, as proof that love truly knows no bounds.  This is definitely an interesting read, especially, since the book is written in verse. Aside from reading poetry or some of the classics, I've never come across a book in the young adult section written in verse. This book has about 200 pages but if compressed would probably be about 15-20 pages. It really is a short read but it's definitely enjoyable!  This is about a 15 year old girl named Ava who lost her boyfriend Jackson. This is a story about loss, grieving and learning to be able to move on. At 15 I did not give 2 shits about guys. I was too wrapped up in my own world to really notice the opp...

Written For You | A play By: Joseph Cognard (Review)

Image
***I received this play to review but it will not influence my rating and opinion.*** There will also be spoilers.  Summary: Find out why accountants should stick to doing the books not writing one. Somebody must have suggested Bob Curry write a book. He didn't just wake up one morning with the idea. Or did he? Well, at least working in a publishing company he should have no problem finding someone to read it. Or will he? Read along as this dark comedy moves to an epic conclusion. Will you enjoy reading a play? Of course you will, don't forget it is and will always be, Written For You.  This has been a surprisingly enjoyable read. I did not have much faith but don't judge a book by its cover! It's funny, witty, and so darn ironic it's definitely right up my alley. The last time I read a play was way back in my college days. And I had a very mean professor who toke the fun right out of it so my hopes for this play being good were very low since I only ever had bad e...

The Announcement By: Michael J. Gajda (Book Review)

Image
(((I received this book to review but it will in no way influence my review and rating))) Summary: You drive down a road for the hundredth time and notice a house you've never noticed before. You look at a picture and never saw that green spot before. You pick veggies or fruit and think you've cleared the area, then go back and see all the ones you missed. It's all in your point of view. There's a new perspective, a different angle - and you see things differently. And that's where The Announcement comes in. It provides that different point of view, that new perspective, that different angle, and does so with a purpose, It's for anyone who would like to see the world be a better place, but will challenge your ideas of what ""better"" is. And when you're done, and have had a chance to absorb The Announcement, think of others who would hate this book. Then give it to them and cajole, bribe, beg or whatever you have to do to get the...

First thing I would like to say is that I have never read a book quite like this one. I'm referring to the writing style of it all and how the story was portrayed. The book was written as if it were an adult telling an imaginary story to ...

Montana Homecoming By: Eve Gaddy (Book Review)

Image
(I received this book to review. I am not receiving compensation for this review) (There will be spoilers in this review) This anthology contains 5 stories by 5 different authors. Each story and the anthology itself is centered around Montana. But more specifically around the town of Marietta. Apparently, Marietta is a magical western, amazing, where love can be found town with an amazing community. Personally, I doubt that this 'magical' town is as amazing and magical as the authors make it out to be but I am open to their suggestions of said town. For this review I will write a summary for each story then review each story the same way. So let's get started! Summary: Long Way Home by Kathleen O'Brien  Abby Foster plans to do what she pleases after having domineering men control her life. This includes a weekend fling, no strings attached with Joe Carlyle who happened to have had his heart broken by Abby over eight years ago. Joe doesn't want a weekend fl...

Christmas Reflections By: Joanne Jaytanie (Book Review)

Image
(Disclaimer) I received this book for review. I am in no way, shape or form being compensated for this review. All thoughts and opinions are solely mine. One thing I wanted to say is that Joanne was just so sweet she left me a little note inside the novel. She wrote for me to immerse myself in the spirit of the holidays, Awe I was gushing when I read that note. That was just too darn sweet. This story is about Juliette Swanson that left her home town of Glenville, Washington and moved to the big city to go to college and work her way up the corporate ladder. She decided to move back home and she fell in love with the family feel and the close knit group of girlfriends she shares everything with. The Schwartz Christmas tree farm house has been put up for sale as well as the ski resort. Juliet and her friends bought the farm house and renovated it so they can all start their own businesses. However, Colton Weatherly a city corporate guy comes into town trying to acquire the ski res...

24/7: Late Capitalism and the Ends of Sleep By: Jonathan Crary (Book Review)

Image
Hi everyone so this is my last book review for this year. So here I have Jonathan Crary's 24/7 novel that was a required book to read for my last humanities class for college. I never would have picked up a book like this but I am super happy that I had to read it for class. In all honesty it puts things into perspective. Crary talks about the 24/7 system that has over taken everyone's lives. And that sleep is the last barrier against Capitalism. He tries to show us the differences that have changed our society due to Capitalism trying to take over our lives. The first thing he talks about is sleep. Sleep is a natural human occurrence. However, for the past hundred years, we have been sleeping less and less. Today we are actually willing to sacrifice our sleep to finish up last minute work, homework, assignments or even for entertainment. And SHIT it is so true. It is really bad that the sleep we need to function properly we are willingly sacrificing. Whether it is by...

Straight A At Stanford And On To Harvard By: Peter Rogers MD (Book Review)

Image
*Disclaimer* I received this book to review. I usually don't read books like this but it is a great way to expand my horizons. I am happy I did receive this book because I wouldn't read something like this otherwise. I usually stick with teenage/young adult fantasy supernatural fictional books but I do have to step away from my comfort zone to really grow intellectually.  This book is essentially filled with lots of study tips/ tricks, thinking strategies, memorization techniques, and Mr. Peter Roger himself talks a lot about his own experiences. This book is relatively long but the chapters are short. Mr, Roger writes about his experience of being the worst student in his class at Standford and eventually turned it all around and became the best student in his classes and then went to Harvard and accomplished the same thing with getting 99% on his board exams.  He gives a lot of great advice about how to succeed in your classes but I feel this book would benef...

Deadly Messengers By: Susan May (Book Review)

Image
((I received this book from the author to review. I am in no way being compensated for my review)) This is the story of Kendall Jennings a freelance writer suddenly turned reporter having a hard time keeping up with her bills. In her quaint low crime city mass murders are occurring and she is the go to reporter for the job. The problem is that the killers are not killers. If anything they are go-lucky people with a loving environment. Except they all have one connection. Would Kendall be able to find out what that connection is? Add that in with a past that still affects her present. Can Kendall continue writing these massacres without bringing up her troubling past? You'll have to read to find out. I usually have a hard time reading e-books which is the form that I received this book in. I have a hard time reading them because I'm old school and I love holding a book in my hands instead of my phone. I liked Kendall because she is a character we can all relate to. She...
