The Conjuring (Movie Review)

***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:
In 1970, paranormal investigators and demonologists Lorraine and Ed Warren are summoned to the home of Carolyn and Roger Perron. The Perrons and their five daughters have recently moved into a secluded farmhouse, where a supernatural presence has made itself known, though the manifestations a are relatively benign at first, events soon escalate in horrifying fashion, especially, after the Warrens discover the house's macabre history.

I have known of Ed and Lorraine Warren (may they rest in peace) since I was a little kid. They are synonymous with the paranormal, and some of the craziest stories you will ever hear. And have been a part of the most terrifying and famous paranormal cases.

The opening scene is about one of their most famous cases to date with the Annabelle doll. I'm happy that their story is being told on the big screen but people need to remember that things get exaggerated and not every scene happened the exact same way because at the end of the day its still a movie!

I whole heartedly believe in the paranormal and try to maintain a strong relationship with God. I think many of us have experienced something unexplainable at least once in life. And it can be a terrifying experience. The one thing I fear about movies like this is that people hear 'based on' and will be attracted to the paranormal and try to recreate the same experiences. Many of whom don't believe in any of this nor have faith in God. When these type of hauntings or paranormal activity occurs the first thing you should do is call on God for help.  The last thing anyone wants is someone getting in a situation with an entity and not knowing how to call on God for help. No matter what, no one should put themselves in a precarious situation whether they believe in the paranormal or not. I believe a level of respect should be had, especially, when it comes to the unknown.

This movie was so well done. It scares you at the right moments and the unexpected ones. It gave just the right amount of knowledge about Catholicism but without shoving it in your face. It didn't feel preachy. I find movies that are too preachy take away from the enjoyment of the movie.

My favourite part was the ending when Lorraine helps Carolyn fight against Bathsheba's possession. No matter how dark and scary something might be, you need to hold on to what you love dearly and remember to fight for who you love. It's so easy to get lost in all the pain and to hyperfocus on the bad things but you should never lose sight of what you love most dearly.

What Ed and Lorraine have done for years by going against the forces of evil and putting themselves on the line to protect others is just so selfless and incredibly brave. I wonder how much of a toll it had on them both doing this for so many years. And on top of all of that the museum of evil artefacts and items they've kept to protect others and to make sure they didn't fall into innocent hands. I don't know how I would handle having so evil items in my possession. I'm excited to see the next movie and just how much more the Conjuring universe will expand.

Rating:
I'm going to give The Conjuring 5 stars on 5! It was extremely well written and executed. I love that Lorraine had a cameo in the movie, pays homage to her and all her work. The movie had a nice pace, no boring or lull moments. There was a nice fluidity throughout the whole movie. They added fun moments at the right spots and transitioned into the more terrifying moments at the right time. I have no complaints and I'm looking forward to the next one.
