The Conjuring 2 (Movie Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.

Opening scene:

We are introduced and given some background to another one of the Warren's most famous cases; The Amityville haunting. This has been made into so many movies that I hope when it gets adapted in to the Conjuring universe that it's actually well made and not like some that made it look like a low budget movie.

Yet again they hit this out of the mark. Whole new story but executed really well like the first one. Typically, sequels tend to suck because they try to redo the first movie again which tends to be the first mistake. With sequels, it's best to flip the script and do something different from the first one which I'm happy to say is what they did for the second conjuring movie.

We're in a whole different country, a new family being plagued by demonic forces but what makes it different from the last is that this has media coverage and so people are half and half on it. Some believe the hauntings are being faked and others believe it's real. Ed and Lorraine themselves weren't sure either because the evidence that they collected wasn't concrete enough. But they changed their minds and went back just in the nick of time to save the family.

The demonic entity behind the attacks was extremely creepy, dressing up as a nun to mock the Christian faith. It should've been Lorraine's first red flag when Ed painted that demon to a T. That thing was obviously very powerful, especially, when it was able to hide itself behind a spirit and essentially use it as a puppet and prevent Lorraine from sensing it. This movie demonstrated that demons are a lot smarter and mischievous than we give them credit for. It told Janet to fake an attack by trashing the kitchen so she would be caught on tape confirming suspicions that it's all a hoax. But poor Janet had to to protect her family. I've gotta give some props to Janet cause if it was me being dragged and teleported by a demon I'd freak the fuck out.

The movie was a lot scarier than the first one and I love it! Like yes!! Scare me! Make me afraid to sleep at night!!! That's what a scary movie should do.

Whoever is writing these scripts need a raise because it's being done so wonderfully. New characters were introduced in this movie and they were done in a way that could lead to a potential standalone movie, for example; the Amityville haunting, the crooked man and Valak; the nun. We are given just enough information to be intrigued but not too much where it takes away from the main story. All three can easily be given enough their own movie and further expand the conjuring universe like they did with Annabelle. So far they are building a really cool universe and I hope it keeps going well!!

Rating:

I am going to give The Conjuring 2 5 stars on 5. I have absolutely no complaints with this movie hence the short review. It ticked all the boxes when it comes to a scary movie. Everything was well written, actors were amazing and this universe is only expanding. I'm excited to see what comes next.
