The Curse Of La Llorona (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: In 1970's Los Angeles, the legendary ghost La Llorona is stalking the night and the children. Ignoring the eerie warning of a troubled mother, a social worker and her own kids are drawn into a frightening supernatural realm. Their only hope of surviving La Llorona's deadly wrath is a disillusioned priest who practices mysticism to keep evil at bay.  I am honestly surprised with how well this movie was made! This is a solid scary supernatural movie with amazing actors and a great script. Typically, with a lot of 'scary' movies I itch to grab my phone and browse some social media app to find something entertaining. Either the acting is super shitty or the script is so ridiculous that I don't even want to finish the movie but not this one.  At first glance you wouldn't think this movie was associated with the conjuring universe. Our only indicator that it is, is because Father Perez appears in this movie and he was t...

Annabelle: Creation (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Former toymaker Sam Mullins and his wife, Esther, are happy to welcome a nun and six orphaned girls into their California farmhouse. Years earlier, the couple's 7 year old daughter Annabelle died in a tragic car accident. Terror soon strikes when one child sneaks into a forbidden room and finds a seemingly innocent doll that appears to have a life of its own.  At the start of the movie I was skeptical because we already knew how Annabelle was created from the first movie so what more could they possibly add to her story? The first half of the movie was dull and insufferable. There was no real development to the story, I do like movies that have a slow buildup but each scene adds to the story. This movie didn't have that. There was nothing exciting about the opening scene that hooked me in and having a bunch of girls move into a house didn't add anything either.  I found the Mullins story and experiences after their daughte...

The Conjuring 2 (Movie Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary: Lorraine and Ed Warren travel to North London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.  Opening scene: We are introduced and given some background to another one of the Warren's most famous cases; The Amityville haunting. This has been made into so many movies that I hope when it gets adapted in to the Conjuring universe that it's actually well made and not like some that made it look like a low budget movie.  Yet again they hit this out of the mark. Whole new story but executed really well like the first one. Typically, sequels tend to suck because they try to redo the first movie again which tends to be the first mistake. With sequels, it's best to flip the script and do something different from the first one which I'm happy to say is what they did for the second conjuring movie.  We're in a whole different country, a new family being plagued by demonic forces but...

Ouija: Origin Of Evil (Movie Review)

Image
(((((Please be warned there are spoilers))))) Movie Summary: In 1960's California, a fake medium's daughter tries to communicate with her late father through a Ouija board, but unleashes a demon instead. This movie is the prequel of the movie Ouija which I have already reviewed. The review for the movie Ouija is here. In the movie we are introduced to the Zander family. The widowed mother Alice and her two daughters Paulina and Doris. Due to losing her husband, Alice becomes the sole provider for her family and to earn some sort of income she performs séances to help her clients get closure from their passed loved ones. She makes money off of scamming people and she uses both her daughters to do it. Personally, I think it's really fucked up to exploit someone's pain and grief to make a few quick bucks. But using her own logic, through deceit she is able to provide some sort of comfort and closure. It does not take too long for Alice to incorporate the po...

Insidious: Chapter 3 (Movie Review)

Image
(Will Contain Spoilers) This is the third movie in the Insidious movie franchise and this movie is basically going back to where everything started. This movie is set during the time before the two other movies occurred. And we are getting a look into the past and seeing where Elise first met her team and is also giving us an explanation as to how and why this other female spirit from the further is after her.  Going into this I didn't have much of an expectation because typically the franchise progressively grows worse the more movies are being added on but this one was a nice surprise! It had quite a few jumps scares, it expended on Elise's background and had a new take on the Insidious world.  Quinn is a young girl trying to get in contact with her mother who has passed, however, instead of her mother Quinn has a demon that attaches itself to her and tries to steal her soul. When she crosses the street there is this old man in a mask waving to her, essentially, dist...
