True Detective | Season 1 (Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** True Detective is an anthology series where each season follow a new case and new detectives to uncover the truth. Season one follows Louisiana State Police homicide detectives Rustin "Rust" Cohle and Martin "Marty" Hart. Each True Detective as they investigate the murder of Dora Lange from 1995 to 2002. As far as tv shows go, I tend to lean more towards supernatural and tv crime dramas. Series like Law & Order: SVU, Bones, Criminal Minds and I pretty much grew up watching CSI so I'm quite used to those type of shows. True Detective, however, is in a league of its own. I've never watched a tv show like this before. My review will only cover the first season. I figured since each season is a new cast and case that I might as well divvy it up this way. Surprisingly, my boyfriend and I watched the first season quite quickly. And when that happens, it's an indicator that it was interesting because we've come a...

Charmed (Series Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** I used to watch Charmed all the time in my childhood and it's one of the few good memories I have of my mother. We used to watch Charmed all the time and hurry to watch all the new episodes every Friday on the WB. Now as an adult, I have purchased the entire eight season collection and even bought myself a replica of the Book of Shadows featured on the show.  My boyfriend and I love to watch tv shows together so my pick this time around was watching Charmed. It has been well over a decade since the last time I even watched an episode so I was interested in seeing how adult Amanda would feel about Charmed... As a child, I absolutely loved Prue. Myself being the eldest, I definitely connected and related to the character of Prue. I loved the first three seasons and as a child was crushed when the final episode of season three premiered and we were left on a cliffhanger. Starting the first episode of season four, I recall asking where Prue...

Lost (Series Review)

***This review will contain spoilers*** Summary:  The survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 were 1,000 miles off course when they crashed on a lush, mysterious island. Each person possesses a shocking secret, but they've got nothing on the island itself, which harbors a monstrous security system, a series of underground bunkers and a group of violent survivalists hidden in the shadows. When this show first came out I was a little kid in elementary school and watched the first few episodes. Fast forward to now where I'm 27 and finally finished this damn show. This was a long ass journey that started with a plane crash, throw in some polar bears, a smoke monster and a whole lot of crazy and after all that I'm still lost.  Jack Shephard: The show started with Jack and of course ended with him. Spinal surgeon who takes initiative and has got some daddy issues. As a viewer it’s easy to become enamoured with Jack since from the beginning he ran right into action and started helping ...

Breaking Bad (Series Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** This has been a long time coming. I can't tell you how long it took for me to watch this show from start to finish. I tried getting into this show several times and if it weren't for my boyfriend gently reminding me we still haven't finished it and to watch a couple episodes at a time then I never would have finished it. I wanted to quit watching several times and if it weren't for my boyfriend and my inability to quit shit it would have never been finished. I know that this show is more than just a man with cancer making meth to make ends mean but the whole concept of the show isn't really my vibe nor what I tend to gravitate to.  Breaking Bad has 5 long seasons of craziness on top of craziness. Walter White a high school chemistry teacher that was diagnosed with cancer had no financial means of taking care of his family and getting treatments without absolutely losing everything and leaving his family with nothing. His brot...

True Blood |Season 2 Episode 10: New World In My View (Review)

Image
*This review will contain spoilers* Opening scene: Sookie dreams of going to Eric right after Godric passes away. They get all hot and heavy. Right when he is about to bite her she wakes up. As I previously mentioned in the past review, it goes to show the effects of what vampire blood can do.  I genuinely loved this episode and laughed quite a bit. This episode wasn't overly packed with events. It was more of one of those episodes that tend to set up the end of the season.  Jason once again surprises me when he takes charge and goes out to see what is going on in Bon Temps and he makes it his mission to stop it. I think it was genius of him to pretend to be the 'god who comes' to save Sam from the crazy townspeople. I like that his character is being utilized a lot more instead of the ex jock/ horny douchebag. I would love to see him as some type of law enforcement figure. I think he would honestly excel at that, especially, since he's fast on his feet and is resourcef...

True Blood |Season 2 Episode 9: I Will Rise Up (Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** This episode started with a bang. The bomb that Luke had strapped on himself went off and a few vampires and humans died. This episode was extremely depressing but also didn't make sense in certain areas.  Starting off with Bon Temps, things are definitely heating up! Maryann is on the hunt for Sam and has enlisted the townspeople to find him and bring him to her. Sam ends up finding Andy, seeking his help and I'm curious how those two will team up together. I love that Lafayette and Tara's mother went to Sookie's house to have an intervention/ to abduct Tara. Honestly, it was the best thing they could do considering her and Eggs were attacking them. Gotta say Lafayette knows how to kick some ass! Still my favourite character!  Even during a crisis Eric is still self-serving. He tricks Sookie into drinking his blood by having her suck the silver bullets out of him. Of course, Bill was not thrilled. He said that even though she con...

True Blood |Season 2 Episode 8: Timebomb (Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** What a crazy and intense episode! Every scene was on point and there was not a lull in this episode. It just kept you wanting more and seeing what will happen next. I liked that it kept switching from different characters so it kept us engaged and interested.  I wasn't a huge fan of Eric 'sacrificing' himself for Sookie. He normally would do what's best for himself but that manipulation tactic was targeted towards Sookie and it worked! And it's hilarious how gullible she is. Then Bill stalks in like a true vampire should; threatening to kill everyone. I hope Sookie opens her eyes when it comes to him, he's not what he seems.  The star in the whole episode is Jason! I think he might actually be maturing and evolving. One thing he has always been consistent in is protecting his family. I loved seeing him getting aggressive and turning into Rambo to protect his sister. Even him apologizing to Bill for how he treated him in th...

True Blood |Season 2 Episode 6: Hard-Hearted Hannah (Review)

Image
***This review will contain spoilers*** Bill's maker; Lorena is in Dallas by invitation from Eric. Seems his plan is to get Bill reintroduced to Lorena so he can swoop in and steal Sookie for himself. Not the best plan but certainly not the worst. I love flashbacks we get, especially, from the vampire's point of view, we get to be immersed in their past and we get to experience history from their point of view. It's nice to see how they've evolved over the centuries. One thing I need to point out about Bill is that with every woman is he with he adapts this new persona that matches with the woman he is with. When newly turned all he wanted to do was go back to his family. Once that option was taken away he fully embraced his 'monster' and goes on a killing spree with Lorena. Fast forward to him with Sookie, he acts like a perfect gentleman. You'd hardly believe he is a vampire. It's hard to believe which of Bill to trust.  The couple who is shining thro...

True Blood: Season 1 Episode 5 Sparks Fly Out (Episode Review)

Image
((((There are spoilers)))) Getting right into the episode the rift between Sookie and Bill is quite understandable. Just knowing him and being associated with him has brought on a lot of change and danger. To Sookie all this change is disruptive to the little and simple life she has created for herself. At the same time such change might be what Sookie needs to finally thrive and live. But with him? Hell no! Jason is dumber than a bag of rocks. Doing V yet again? That is just asking for trouble to happen. And that trouble is him hallucinating. It's incredible how smooth he can be while high but isn't he forgetting Dawn fairly quickly? Bill sneakily listening in on everyone, how not shocking! Bill is quite something when he's got his Southern charm on full blast. However, when you see the truth of what is Bill Compton there is not much that he can do to deter our eyes from what he really is; manipulative, cold and a vampire. I do find it interesting that he can...

True Blood: Season 1 Episode 4 Escape From Dragon House (Episode Review)

Image
(((There will be spoilers.))) Jason is just the epitome of stupid. Dawn is dead and after having an altercation with her, he has to come back the morning after? I don't know about y'all but if someone shoots a gun at me (it's never happened) I wouldn't come back with flowers then get super pissy throwing said flowers around. And Sookie! I understand she was your friend but don't touch things at a murder scene.  I don't know whether I should laugh or just get pissed off at everyone but we have a murdered woman and everyone is not even focusing on the importance of it all. Andy is mad because people don't call him detective, the coroner is focusing on Dawn's breasts and everyone outside want to know all the gossipy details. What. The Fuck! Where is everyone's priorities?  Jason being the idiot that he is drinks the whole vial of vampire blood. Boy does he not listen to people. But here is what's bothering me. Jason isn't being cha...
