Shutdown (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #22.75) By: Laurell K. Hamilton (Book Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

An Anita Blake short story, featuring our favorite bad boy werewolf, yep,  Richard Zeeman. He’s been working his therapy: read on to see the results that hard work and being brave enough to own your whole self can get you.

What was even the point of this short story? This just demonstrated how out of touch Hamilton is with her audience. From Anita flaunting herself and degrading Richard's fiancé to the whole tone of the story just being passive aggressive and overall just fucking stupid.

This was supposed to be a sit down lunch between Anita, Micah, Richard and his fiancé Ellen to help her understand why Richard needs to continue having sex with Anita... yeah doesn't that just sound stupid? The first chapter alone Anita is already comparing herself to Ellen and letting us know just how much better she is. From her hair being darker and her being physically fitter than Ellen...ugh get off your high horse.

The first chapter she is boasting about how much better she is but then she still has the audacity to say out loud that she doesn't find herself beautiful...the oxymoron here is screaming at me. I'm all for Richard finding love and settling down but to then try to justify why he needs to have sex with other people including his ex is mind blowing to me. If my boyfriend would ever say such shit to me I am dumping him right then and there. Shame on Richard to make it seem like Ellen is the crazy one for not understanding. Richard needs to find himself a shifter girlfriend who knows from the get go the whole ugliness of his life. But no sane woman would ever be ok with her boyfriend fucking his ex girlfriend.

I don't know how much more of Hamilton's books I can read. She can't even put together a short story without her inputting her personal bdsm polygamy bullshit. We get it, you like polygamy but why does every single thing that she writes has to include it and have it shoved down our throats??

Rating:

0 stars on 5. I don't have any faith that this series will turn around, especially, when a short story fails miserably. I understand that a lot of times short stories are outtakes or filler content that didn't make the final draft. I'm just getting so tired of this series. Every review is a documentation of my descent into madness and thinking that this series will get better.
