Nobody (Movie Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

Summary:

Hutch Mansell fails to defend himself or his family when thieves break into his suburban home one night. The aftermath of the incident soon strikes a match to his long shimmering rage. In a barrage of fists, gunfire and squealing tires, Hutch must now save his wife and kids from a dangerous adversary and ensure that he will never be underestimated again,

Opening scene:

The protagonist is hand cuffed in a interrogation room smoking a cigarette and feeding tuna to a kitten. He looks beaten up but yet has this air of confidence. Fast-forward into getting a glimpse into his life and it seems  he is stuck in this routine of mundane repetitiveness.

One night a couple breaks in to steal and you can tell by his confidence and demeanor he is not afraid. If anything he held himself back because he was afraid of what he might do. However, he allowed the burglars to steal and walk away without a scratch. This only leads to having a bigger wedge/ division between his wife and son. They just seem to be tolerating him unlike his little girl who enjoys having him around. What sets him off on this rampage is his daughters kitty bracelet is missing and most likely the burglars took it. Hutch finds and confronts them only to show them mercy and leaves them alone. Instead he comes across a bunch of thugs on a bus harassing a young woman and he just goes nuts. He took a pretty good beating but the other guys ended up in a hospital.

There are people like Hutch that gain and achieve a certain level of spatial awareness and hand to hand combat who stop practicing martial arts or like Hutch just retires but they crave that aggressive energy. They might become rusty but the body never forgets. Myself for example, I've trained in martial arts for 10+ years and at times I could be in a situation and my body remembers exactly what it needs to do. Tapping into that level of focus where you allow yourself to just react and not even think can be extremely dangerous. That's why Hutch held back against the burglars. I applaud that moment of restraint because it's hard to snap back.

In a lot of action filled movies you tend to find an imbalance between the protagonist and antagonist. By that I mean the 'villain' will be too easy to either outsmart or defeat which in my eyes takes away from the story. A protagonist is only as good as their adversary otherwise it would make for a quick and boring story. Yulian is arrogant, fearless and willing to go toe to toe against anyone who stands in his way. Hutch and Yulian had a great dynamic that resulted into an action packed movie that had an epic final fight.

What elevated the movie for me was having Hutch's father and brother come to help him out. His father is the cutest with his shotgun killing Russians and giggling away. His brother being an amazing sniper and doing 3 headshots with one bullet! I would absolutely love there being a sequel focusing on their family and discovering where they got their talents from. I'm sure they must have some crazy stories!

I absolutely loved this movie. The beginning of the movie ties in with the ending. Hutch's nickname is 'nobody' because he comes in and cleans up the mess and kill the people who are just so evil they're not worth putting in prison. After killing all the Russians in Yulian's crew including Yulian himself. Hutch gets arrested but it doesn't take long before a call comes in to release him from custody.

Rating:

I Am going to give Nobody 5 stars on 5. From start to finish this movie didn't have a dull moment, the movie had a great pace and a great story. I'm so invested in this Hutch character that I'll be running at the movie theater's once a sequel gets released. I found out that the sequel was given the green light but no word yet on if they are already shooting the movie but I will be impatiently waiting for the sequel!
