Let me start off by saying that family drama is insane!!!! Correction Faerie family drama is insane!!!!
There has been so much development and new discoveries in this amazing, imaginative world. We get introduced to a new ex Goddess, old family members try to creep back into the picture and new magical powers kick in! This is a great sequel to A Kiss of Shadows (book review already completed) Sometimes sequels can epically suck but not in this case.

We are introduced to Maeve Reed, Queen of Hollywood for over fifty years, exiled Seelie Sidhe and former Goddess of beauty and charisma; Conchenn. What does an exiled used to be goddess want with our Merry. But a child of course. Maeve wanted a child with Gordon\on her husband before he passed away. In exchange for helping Maeve, Merry gets to find out the little secret as to why she was exiled from the glittering court a century ago. After Merry finally gets to heal Galen from his physical wounds and they get to finally join as man and woman for a fertility ritual nonetheless. Once the ritual is complete they help Maeve and Gordon get pregnant. Ironically enough, Merry is not pregnant thus far.

But boy oh boy has King Taranis of the Seelie court has been very naughty. The reason why Maeve Reed was exiled so long ago was because when King Taranis asked for her hand in marriage but she declined since she wanted to have children and didn't believe she could have some with him. She is insinuating that Taranis is sterile and when there is a ruler who is sterile in Sidhe culture then their people become sterile as well. Taranis has never had any children while he has ex wives that once they are with other partners are able to conceive. A barren leader needs to be sacrificed so their people can thrive. Taranis has damned his Seelie court and if anyone knew the truth he wouldn't survive.

Not only does Merry's mother reach out to her but the King himself to invite her to the Yule Ball. For so many years they have tossed her to the side and always overlooked her but now they are suddenly so interested in her. Evidently, Taranis found out that Merry spoke with Maeve and she knows his little secret. So what does a Seelie King with a thousand year reign do? He unleashes the Nameless. The Nameless is essentially, the old and powerful magicks of both Seelie and Unseelie Sidhe. Both sides agreed to give up their most powerful magic so that they can live on American soil without jeopardizing their stay like back in Europe. Not only did he release the Nameless but he also hired Bucca 'an ex god' to unleash the Starving Ones which is the spirits of passed Sidhe who are stuck in the in between. They are neither in heaven or hell but are waiting to steal enough of people's energy that they can manifest themselves physically. Bucca ended up losing control of the Starving ones and that ended up leaving hundreds of humans being murdered while in reality their target was Maeve Reed.

Aside from crazy magicks running around Los Angeles, we have Merry having sex with three new partners. All of which we are familiar with but still sexually new to her. She finally sleeps with Doyle and he is not a full blooded Sidhe! He is part phouka 'shapeshifter' but most of his ancestors turned into dogs. And no! If Doyle gets Merry pregnant she won't give birth to puppies lol. Once Galen gets healed, Merry and him perform sexually in a fertility ritual to help Maeve and Gordon conceive. They finally got to quench the flame that grew between them for years. And lastly, Merry had sex with Kitto and Kitto's Sidhe side finally awakened! He was always half Sidhe but now his magic within him has awakened, glowing and all.

Fast forward to the end and we have Merry facing the Nameless with her men laying beaten in the surrounding area. Finally, her second hand of power manifests and it is the hand of blood. Merry can command her enemy's blood from their body with just a tiny cut. That is how she was able to disarm the Nameless but by doing so it exploded with all the magic and power it contained. Everyone at the scene ended up absorbing the magic and some regaining what they lost. The rest of the magic that was not absorbed was bound into the air, earth and nature but for Galen and Merry we won't know how the magic will manifest. We will just have to wait and see what type of power they got!

Rhys before he gave up his magic was a death god and when the Nameless finally erupted Rhys regained all that he had lost. He became so powerful that he was able to rest the starving ones before they could kill anyone else. Honestly, this was good timing seeing as how Cel will soon be released from his punishment and goddess knows who else will be coming after Merry.

Rating:
But of course this book following the first one will receive a 5 star rating! I loved this book. I couldn't put it down and it is beyond captivating. It just makes me want to become a Sidhe warrior Princess. I love that it is imaginative, there's always something new going on and it's not the same thing dragging on for 50+ pages. The story keeps moving along and I feel like a cannot read it fast enough.
