2016: How It Didn't Break Me!

Image
If you have been alive during 2016 then you know exactly just how brutal it was for all of us. It seemed that I would come across a meme every other day on social media describing and painting 2016 as the year from hell. And if you do look at everything that has happened during this year then yes it has been quite unsettling for most. For this post I"ll go over all the accomplishments and over-bearing moments that I have faced during 2016. While also showing to all of you that 2016 did not beat or in lack of better words break me.  Believe it or not but 2016 has definitely been jam-packed full of lessons, accomplishments and unfortunate moments. Nonetheless, this year was bad in a good way. You know what I mean?  First off I'd like to start with the accomplishments of 2016. I graduated college! During these 3 years of hard long work, unwanted friendships, finding myself and learning about myself I've finally crossed the finish line. I wrote a blog post describing...

Straight A At Stanford And On To Harvard By: Peter Rogers MD (Book Review)

Image
*Disclaimer* I received this book to review. I usually don't read books like this but it is a great way to expand my horizons. I am happy I did receive this book because I wouldn't read something like this otherwise. I usually stick with teenage/young adult fantasy supernatural fictional books but I do have to step away from my comfort zone to really grow intellectually.  This book is essentially filled with lots of study tips/ tricks, thinking strategies, memorization techniques, and Mr. Peter Roger himself talks a lot about his own experiences. This book is relatively long but the chapters are short. Mr, Roger writes about his experience of being the worst student in his class at Standford and eventually turned it all around and became the best student in his classes and then went to Harvard and accomplished the same thing with getting 99% on his board exams.  He gives a lot of great advice about how to succeed in your classes but I feel this book would benef...

Sophie's World: The history of Philosophy By: Jostein Gaarder (Book Review)

Image
This story takes place in a village in Norway. The story follows the protagonist fourteen year old Sophie Amundsen. Sophie finds two questions in the mailbox. "Who are you?" And "Where does the world come from?" Both of these questions lead Sophie on a philosophical journey of a lifetime.  What I liked about this story was that it included everything that you would need to know before entering college; religion, history, philosophy, psychology, and all the incredible minds that we are currently studying (more specifically I'm studying).  I found this book was really helpful in understanding some of the greatest philosophers to have ever lived.  If I would have read this book before starting college all the classes that I had such as; English, ancient philosophy, medieval civilizations, intro to psychology, and critical thinking would have been a lot easier.   The characters were believable and at one point in this story there is supposedly a mirro...

Advice on grades

Image
Grades whether if you are in high school, college, or university are important but how important? I noticed the other day one of my friends was not very happy with the last couple of grades that he received. I saw how down he got and how he started to become depressed in a sense. Not only that but I also had a guy asking me advice on how to balance the school life with everything else. The first thing that I realized is that a grade will not define me as a person. It just won't and I won't allow it. Yes, grades are important but if you are not happy then what is the point? This is YOUR life no one else's. A grade is just a grade. It is a number, that's it. I take my schooling seriously but I have my own study habits. But if I get a bad grade you want to know what I do? I move on!!!! Your health is first and foremost the most important thing to you. Why would you want to sacrifice that for a grade? Does that make sense?  I'm not bashing school in any way sha...
