Justice League (Movie Review)
***This review will contain spoilers***
Summary:
Fueled by his restored faith in humanity, and inspired by Superman's selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists newfound ally Diana Prince to face an even greater threat. Together, Batman and WonderWoman work quickly to recruit a team to stand against this newly awaked enemy. Despite the formation of an unprecedented league of heroes in Batman, WonderWoman, Aquaman, Cybor and The Flash, it may be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.
I was apprehensive about this movie because Batman V Superman left a bad taste in my mouth. It makes no sense the characters being as old as they are and not even have the Justice League formed. The opening scene was a video of Superman being questioned by a couple of kids. The CGI on Cavill's face was atrocious and distracted from the actual scene itself. I would have preferred that they scrapped that altogether.
Isn't it already too late trying to form a team of superheroes when the devil is already knocking on your door? There's an invasion coming and they're scrambling to get a team together? A little too late. I would have preferred the opener being about the heroes coming together to honor the sacrifice that Superman made to save the world. Don't spend half the movie trying to bring heroes together. Just sounds exhausting to have to sit through.
I hate the way the Amazonians were portrayed in the movie. They are immortal warriors that spend their day training and most have been doing so for many centuries. And their efforts barely affect Steppenwolf? As if that wasn't bad enough, WonderWoman is completely underpowered. She is on par and just as powerful as Superman in the comics, yet in the movie they have her struggling against him when he is brought back to life. She is a formidable fighter and I have had such an issue with the way they have depicted her in the DCEU.
Let's talk about Batman and the absolute shit way he was written. It especially becomes evident during this movie that whoever wrote the script didn't have a true feel to who Batman and Bruce Wayne truly is. First off, he is one of the most brilliant minds in all of the DC comics, he is always 10 steps ahead of everyone but yet in this movie he was portrayed as being the butt of jokes, being ridiculed by strangers and being caught off guard...that is NOT Batman. And a bunch of people knowing he's Batman? He would never allow a huge group of Islanders to know his secret identity. That's asking for trouble and especially someone as experienced as him doing crimefighting for twenty+ years would know to never allow that piece of information to be free flowing.
It's great that Superman is back to the land of the living but it seemed most of the scenes he were in were badly done with CGI. It was very apparent that it was some type of patchwork. It wasn't a seamless integration into the scene. The whole movie was built towards the Justice League fighting Steppenwolf and their 'big' fight scene didn't last long and was anti-climactic. His fear was his own downfall? Like yeah kinda sounds okay, however, when having to sit through a shitty movie you want to see a action packed scene with the bad guy getting an epic beatdown and instead we got a couple hits in from our heroes and his ultimate demise was his parademons going after him due to his fear.
Rating:
This subpar Justice League movie is getting 1 star on 5. This was clearly poorly written, poorly produced and poorly executed. It was clear someone was trying to have an Avengers moment with a DC cast but they failed MISERABLY!!! There's so much wrong with this movie that I am honestly surprised that no one thought that they shouldn't keep pouring money into a garbage that's on fire. This was disappointing on so many levels. The animated movies are so much better and it would have been better if the studio saved their money and instead gave us more of those than another waste of time/money. The new Superman movie is coming out this month and I am praying to the DC gods that James Gunn makes it all right.
