True Blood |Season 2 Episode 12: Beyond Here Lies Nothin' (Review)

 ***This review will contain spoilers***

This episode was so intense! It had so many highs and lows it felt like I was on a rollercoaster for the entire episode.

First and foremost, I need to point out how amazing and selfless Sam is. He put his life on the line and would have sacrificed himself to save Sookie and the entire town from MaryAnn's clutches. If that doesn't scream a knight in shining armor I don't know what does. The plan that he and Bill made up was genius but also extremely risky for they had no way of knowing if Sam turning into a bull would be the key to killing MaryAnn.

Her plan was to kill Sam and use his heart to have her god Dionysus reborn into the human plane. Instead, she comes across a bull thinking it was her god coming to finally be with her. The bull rams it's giant horn into her and she believing she was the ultimate sacrifice allows herself to be killed. When Sam shapeshifts back into human form MaryAnn looks at him and asks "is there no god?". From my perspective I would say that her god was with her all along. Everything that was happened throughout the season was a culmination that led to MaryAnn's spirit returning to her god. Imagine being a creature like her and being able to do so many magical things, you would expect a almost miracle like moment to happen to finally see the deity you worship. The breeze you feel on your face, the feather you come across or even a person you meet will be your god influencing or acknowledging your life and letting you know that they're there. For MaryAnn, she no longer has to live and be on this constant mission to be with her god for her death allows her to be with him again. It was almost sad to see her so upset when Sookie destroyed her statue and offerings. It goes to show just how her obsession really took over her life.

I'll be the one to say it but Sookie and Sam should be together. Vampires are beyond manipulative and only take and do as they please. Bill is hiding a lot from Sookie and instead of being honest with her he lies and tries to be the hero in her life. I don't think he cares about her as much as he pretends to. For if he really did love her, he would let her go be with someone who would care for her and that she can grow old with being surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Sam is kind, compassionate and different just like Sookie. These two are end game even if anyone else can't see it. And while I am team Eric, it's plain as day to see she doesn't belong with a vampire. It seems that her gift is coveted by vampires and that's the only thing that they want from her.

After MaryAnn was defeated, the town slowly but surely is going back to how they were. They are all coming up with their own  theories trying to rationalize what happened to the town. But of course this wouldn't be Bon Temps if there weren't more crazy right around the corner. Eggs was stricken with guilt and grief over not knowing everything that he has done and with the help of Sookie he was able to recall all the people he murdered for MaryAnn. He tried to turn himself in to Andy but instead he got shot because of his erratic behaviour that was leading to him becoming violent. Not only is Eggs now dead but Bill proposes and gets kidnapped while Sookie is in the bathroom having a mental breakdown about the possibility of getting married.

I'm not a fan of Bill so him being gone for season 3 will be the best thing that will ever have happened to this series. I'm excited to see what happens next and hope Sookie gets her head out of her ass when it comes to Bill.
