Current Hyper Fixation Hobby

I must be spending too much time on TikTok but the algorithm somehow brought me to the side of ColorTok. From the Disney coloring books to the Ohuhu markers I have become obsessed with not only watching coloring videos but coloring itself. Thank goodness for Amazon and their speedy deliveries because I just couldn't wait to get my hands on some coloring books and markers.

Financially, I'm a few hundred dollars deep in this new hobby of mine. And while I am writing this out I have a pending order waiting to be shipped to me. Of course, I included a few items that I desperately need that isn't related to coloring to try to convince myself I don't have a problem. And to get free delivery...of course!

When I first started on this journey I had a Crayola set of markers and I was on the hunt for some cool coloring books. Well color me impressed (see what I did there? Pun intended) that retail stores weren't able to help me find the coloring books I was looking for. I don't understand how a coloring book at Walmart is so damn expensive. Maybe that's the price we Canadians have to pay for having complete idiots running this country but I was not going to pay top dollar for a janky expensive coloring book.

Amazon helped me find the supplies I desperately needed to scratch my coloring itch. I did wait until Black Friday to snag me some items on sale because we love saving some money in this garbage economy. I have found a company on Amazon that has a huge range of Color by number coloring books at an amazing price. Their name is Color Questopia and most of their books range between $10-12 and have some beautiful illustrations. They have over 250 coloring books and not to jinx myself but I think I might be able to work my way through their entire collection.

Color Questopia is based in New York City and one thing I am trying to actively do, especially, when buying coloring books is that they're coming from a company based out of North America. I love just how affordable they are and the variety of coloring books they have. They are single sided pages with a black background so depending on the markers you're using it won't bleed through. I am currently working my way through their Christmas Village book and am absolutely loving it.

Now in terms of markers. I have a few different sets. One of them is a old Crayola marker set that helped prop me up for the start of my new hobby but then I quickly moved on to acrylic markers. I have a new found love for acrylic markers that I never knew was possible to achieve. They are so opaque and long lasting but they can be tricky to use. It definitely took me a while to get the hang of them and even now I'm still finding new ways to use them. I bought a set of 136 markers from Nicety while it was on sale for Black Friday. With boxing day right around the corner right now is the time to add it to your wish list and wait till it goes on sale. I may or may not  have a 60 set of acrylic markers on the way to me right now. One big difference that can play a part on your colorings is Nicety and other brands have nibs where the acrylic paint comes out of which if you're not used to using them can scratch the page and can be different to color multiple coats in the same area. The new set I bought has a brush tip that should be easier to use...hopefully.

Coloring has becomes so therapeutic for me and helps me keep my phone usage down. I hate how quickly I can get sucked into the void when scrolling through different apps so coloring really helps grounding me and it's so fun to do. I feel like I have been tapping into my inner child since I used to love to color as a child. I'm not sure how long this hobby fixation will last but for now I am fully embracing it.
